1 PUBLIC LIBRARY NEWSLETTER ALSO SERVING POSEN LIBRARY DISTRICT Volume VII Issue II Sept Dec 2015 LIBRARY HOURS Monday - Thursday 9:00am - 8:00pm Friday & Saturday 9:00am - 5:00pm The Markham Library hopes that your summer was fun-filled, adventurous and exciting. We wish to welcome you back for another academic year whether its for school, self-motivated improvement or just for fun. Our sincere goal is to provide the most up-to-date service and assistance including informing and educating patrons how they can better help themselves. As the library staff is working hard to learn new avenues and systems of efficiency, you will see a few changes around the library such as the new On-line Catalog. Patrons can now pay their fines via the internet using their credit/debit cards. A list of items checked-out and placed for hold are now stored into your patron s record and can be viewed at will by clicking My Account. You can now login just once to easily find E-books, magazines, and/or online resources and E-books can be downloaded via the Swan On-line Catalog, there s no need to logout and login to another website. Searching the online catalog is now easier than ever, you now have the option to search in English or Spanish. There are options to receive text messages or of your requests, checkouts and your notices. We encourage you to login to your library on-line account by logging into our website: and clicking on the New Swan Catalog icon or If you should encounter any difficulties with logging in, accessing your account, placing holds etc. please contact the front desk for assistance. SWAN CATALOG ACCOUNT ACCESS To access My Account, log in with your library barcode and PIN. Your PIN is the last four digits of your primary phone number on file. Once logged in, you may reset your PIN on the Personal Information tab, under Change PIN. PINs can also be reset by clicking Forgot My PIN from the login screen. DOWNLOADS E-BOOKS and AUDIOBOOKS You can now download e-books and audiobooks by logging into your SWAN catalog account. Go to our website and click on NEW SWAN CATALOG markhamlirary.org ELECTRONIC FORMATS You now have the option to download in these formats via the new SWAN catalog: ADOBE EPUB ~ Download to computer PDF ~ Download to computer HTML ~ Read in browser KINDLE ~ Download to mobile devices MP3 ~ Download to computer/mobile device PROVIEW ~ download to PC, IPads and tablets

Value is in the Card, bring your Library Card in to update it and clear your fines. THURSDAYS Banned Books Week, an annual celebration of the freedom to read. This is an opportunity to highlight the importance of intellectual freedom and to remind us not to take our freedom to read for granted. 3 Page 3 OCTOBER NOVEMBER FOOD FOR FINES The Library will be accepting donations of non-perishable food items for the month of November. 5 cans will equal $1.00 towards your fines of not more than $ Our Library pet Fred the Fish needs a new home. For the month of October, our pet will be on display, To adopt Fred the Fish you will need to write a one page essay: Why you would be the best caregiver and how you would take care of him. All essays must be turned in by October 31st and the new adopted family will be notified by November 2nd. GET YOUR LIBRARY and join in the Anime/Manga Character party Families are encouraged to join our Library in a night of fun, creativity and use of their imagination. A fantastic program is planned with an energetic performer engaging the whole family as participants. Family Reading Kits will be given to the first 15 families. Door prizes will be awarded and light refreshments will be served. THURSDAY, OCTOBER 5:30 P.M. Teens are invited to come as your favorite character and share with others alike. Light Refreshments will be served. Please RSVP by October 12th. INT L GAMES YOUR LIBRARY Saturday, November 2:00 P.M. Parents join your children at the library for an afternoon of fun and games. A day celebrated nationally. A family board game will be awarded to a family with the most participants. Refreshments will be served. Our collection has grown with many items for all young and old, so come on and take advantage of your local mobile library. If you don t own one, we encourage you to apply for a library card so you can experience Markham s Bookmobile.
