2 Services... The Team providing library services includes: A courteous and well-trained staff to guide patrons onto the Information Highway. Library Board of Trustees A governing body comprised of five elected individuals that establishes policy and is ultimately responsible for the operation of the District. Friends of the Library Hard working volunteers supporting various District activities. Community Volunteers Our patrons, who have worked very hard over the years to ensure the success of the library district. The East Bonner County Free Library District provides the following: Books A collection of popular materials and independent learning resources tailored to our local communities. Reference Services Reference materials available in-house, as well as staff to answer inquiries at your library via phone or . Technology Internet access. Personal computer use (word processing, spreadsheets, desktop publishing). Online access to the Library District s web site and collection. Copy machines, typewriters, accessibility aids. Access to hundreds of periodicals via the LiLI online databases. Periodicals A collection of over 150 magazines and newspapers. Video and Audio Materials A broad selection of entertainment, educational, and informational videos, audiotapes, and CD s. Interlibrary Loan Patrons may request books not owned by the library but available on loan from other libraries throughout the nation. 2

3 Reciprocity - Your library card is good elsewhere A District patron library card is honored in most public libraries in Idaho. Patrons with a card from any tax-supported or academic library may obtain a library card and check out materials from the East Bonner County Free Library District system. Photo ID and your home library card are required. Programs for Children and Young Adults There are a variety of programs and activities throughout the year to encourage reading by children and young adults. Homeschooling Support Materials and supporting activities are available to students being schooled at home. Adult Programming The District sponsors an annual book discussion series and occasional author visits. Lifelong Learning Program Free tutoring for individuals or groups who have a desire to do any of the following: Learn to read Improve basic skills in reading, writing, English, math, speaking, and use of the computer. Receive a GED Improve those skills necessary to obtain a job. Improve the use of English as a second language. Attain US citizenship Outreach and Extended Services Delivery of books and other library materials is available to people who are unable to visit our library branches. The bookmobile serves many outlying areas on a regular basis. Meeting Rooms Both the Sandpoint and Clark Fork facilities provide state-of-the-art meeting rooms free to non-profit groups in the community. 3

5 and Beyond... Bookmobile The bookmobile visits various communities in East Bonner County. Among those communities are Laclede, Vay, Westmond, Careywood, Hope, Trestle Creek, Samuels, and the Pack River Store area. Check with the Sandpoint Library or the library website for the current schedule. Extended Services Deliveries to the homebound and local nursing/retirement homes. 6 Policies... Library Card Any resident within the boundaries of the library district is entitled to a free library card. To receive your library card, bring to the library the following: Proof of identity (driver s license, student ID, etc.) Proof of residency (rent receipt, printed check, utility bill, etc.) Minors must be accompanied by a parent. Homebound and nonresidents should check with their local branch, or check the web page, for further information. Circulation Policies Non-Video Checkout All materials, with the exception of videos, items with holds, and most interlibrary loans, are checked out for a 4-week period. There is a limit of 20 items out at one time. Video Checkout Up to 6 videos may be checked out for a 1-week period. Renewals Most materials may be renewed by telephone or in person one time only for a 2-week period. Videos may be renewed one time only for a 1-week period. Items with holds are not renewable. Holds A hold can be placed on most items in the collection, with the exception of videos, by filling out a green hold card available at the information desk. Patrons are limited to 6 pending holds at one time. Holds may also be placed via the online catalog from home or in the library. See our web page or call your local branch for details. Overdue Policy The charge for each overdue notice is $1.00 plus an additional 25-cents for each item that is overdue. All overdue materials must be returned, and fines paid, before a patron may check out other items. See the web page, contact your local library, or pick up the Circulation Policies brochure, for details on various checkout periods, renewals, holds, interlibrary loans, etc. 6

7 Mission... The East Bonner County Free Library District will: Provide free and open access to information and ideas that are essential to a democracy. Encourage lifelong reading and learning. Support activities important to our diverse community. Uphold the basic First Amendment principles of intellectual freedom and access to information without censorship. the Library Numbers... We have a collection of over 100,000 items. We serve over 33,000 patrons. We circulate our items nearly 500,000 times per year. The Sandpoint and Clark Fork facilities were built with funds from a successful bond election in The Clark Fork building opened in November It provided nearly four times more space than the previous building. The Sandpoint building opened in April 2000 and, at 30,500 square feet, is nearly three times larger than the old building. The new facility will allow the library collection to more than double in size over the next twenty years. Part of the bond funds were also used to buy a bookmobile. The bookmobile provides service to remote communities all over East Bonner County, bringing the library closer than ever to everyone in the district. The bookmobile carries between 1,500 and 1,800 items in its collection. It is one of only 7 in the state as of The bookmobile schedule is available by calling the Sandpoint facility or checking our web site. 7
