The paper produced with the aim to analyse the journal, Indian Journal of Marketing in regard to understand the year wise distribution of articles, authorship pattern, references, citations etc., Maximum number of articles were contributed during the year 2009 and more articles were contributed by Indian authors. Most of the authors are working in academic institutions and universities. Keywords: Bibliometrics, Journal, statistical tool. Introduction Bibliometrics is a techniques used in library and information science and it is a quantitative study of various aspects of literature on a topic and is used to identify the publication pattern, authorship trend, geographical contribution, forms of documents referred. This can lead to better organization of information resources, which is essential for effective and efficient use. Bibliometrics has attained sophistication and complexity with a national, international and interdisciplinary character. With an objective to study the various aspects of literature and pattern of Indian Journal of Marketing the present study is undertaken. Need for the Study Indian Journal of Marketing is a double blind peer reviewed refereed monthly journal, which was started in It is the oldest and the only monthly journal of Marketing in India. It is an authentic research publication dealing with Marketing, Advertising, Consumer Behavior, Sales Management, Promotion Management, Business Education, Business Information Systems (MIS), Business Law, Communication, Direct Marketing, E-Commerce, Global Business, Health Care Administration, Marketing Research, Marketing Theory & Applications, Office Administration / Management, Organizational Development, Production / Operations, Public Administration, Retailing, Sales / Selling Services, Tourism, Hospitality & Leisure, and Industrial Organization. 3 To find distribution of articles by month wise To identify Authorship pattern of articles To find authors affiliation of Institution To find Countries of origin To find out Forms of Document cited Analysis Table 1: Distribution of Articles by Year Wise Year No. of Articles Table 1 reveals that in the year 2009 highest numbers of articles are published and in the year 2013 lowest number of articles are published and it also shows that from 2009 onwards there is a decreasing trend in publishing articles. 4 September October November December Table 2 infers that maximum number of articles numbering 12 is published in the month of August, volume no 41, year It also shows that the balanced pattern of publication is followed by the publisher. Table -3: Authorship pattern Authorship No of Articles Percentage Single % Double % Three % Four & above % % Table 3 reveals that Double Authored Articles are in the first position with 250 articles (47.53%), Single author articles occupies second position with 224 articles (42.59%) and it is followed by three authored articles with 46 (8.74%) and four & above authored articles in the fourth position with 6 (1.14%) articles. This also implied that combined works of authorship pattern are more in Indian journal of marketing. 5 Table 4 infers that the authors who are working in universities & colleges are having maximum contribution with 721 (82.40%) and it is followed by Research centers and other institutions. Findings and Conclusion In the year 2009 highest number of articles (100) is published. Maximum number of 12 articles are published in the month of August 2011.(vol. no 41) Combined works of authorship pattern are more in Indian journal of marketing. Authors who are working in Universities and Colleges contributed more than Research centers and other institutions. With regard to authors origin Indian authors dominate with their contribution in Indian journal of marketing. Page90

6 The authors of articles in Indian journal of marketing are referred mostly books for their knowledge output. The present study is made with an aim to provide some vital information to the eminent educationalists, business professionals and student community. The above findings clearly gives some salient points with regard to authorship pattern, publication of articles, sources recommended for their output etc. and researcher feels with confidence that it will reach the present and future authors and other personalities and make them to more refined in all areas of publication of articles.
