1 Celebrate Literacy Week, Florida! Boggy Creek Elementary School Ongoing School Events Teachers will choose when these events fit into their schedules January 28 January 29 January 30 January 31 February 1 *Drop Everything and Read (D.E.A.R) Independent Reading Daily (15 min. per day) *Book Exchange: Students will bring a used book to trade it in for another book. *Door contest Decorate classroom doors like a favorite book character OR a with something to promote reading that goes along with the theme of Spreading Literacy, One View at a Time. *Dress up: Sock it To Reading : Wear bright, colorful, and/or silly socks to school in support of literacy. *Teacher read-aloud swap- Teachers will switch classes to read their favorite book to a class. *Hats Off to Reading The students will wear hats to school. *Buddy Reading: Grades adopt a K-1-2 class *DRESS LIKE A VOCABULARY WORD: Teachers and students dress up like a favorite vocabulary word. *VOCABULARY WORD PARADE All students will listen to the story Miss Alaineus the week prior about the Literacy Week. *Dress up: Be A Good Sport and Read today: Wear favorite team clothing to school in support of literacy. *Book Talk Tuesday! Classes will have students share favorite books in book talks in class, * Reading Gives You Superpowers - Wear a superhero t-shirt. *Guest Readers - Schools will be inviting guest readers to share their love of reading with students.

2 Ongoing School Events Jan. 28 January 28 th February 1 st Bellalago Academy s- Literacy Events Teachers will give short book talks on the morning announcements Monday-Friday. Door Decorating- Judged on Wednesday. Reading Million Minute Marathon Reading is Cool - Wear Sunglasses Door Decorating Contest: Teachers & Students will decorate their doors using the theme: Spreading Literacy, One View at a Time. Doors should communicate how students view literacy or the importance of reading in their lives. Decorations may feature one specific book, a genre of books, or focus on the importance of reading. Doors must be completed by Wednesday for the judging. Winners will be announced on BA TV Thursday morning. The winning classrooms will receive a popsicle party! Whose Book is it Anyway? A line/paragraph from a book will be read and students will guess which book it came from. In the media center there will be a box for the students to submit their answers. 3 Correct answers will receive a free paperback book. Jan. 29 Administrators or members of the Leadership team will do a book talk on a Sunshine State Reader Book. They will be recorded, and this will be shown school wide. Posters will be displayed of administrators reading their favorite book. Hats off to Reading Wear your favorite Hat Whose Book is it Anyway? 3 Jan. 30 Buddy Read with another class- Students in upper grades will buddy with a primary class. Show off your creative side Wear Wacky Socks Whose Book is it Anyway? A line/paragraph from a book will be read and students will guess which book it came from. In the media center there will be a box for the students to submit their answers. 3 Correct answers will receive a free paperback book. Literacy Night- Book Fair 5pm-6:30pm Jan. 31 Feb. 1 Reading makes you Bright Wear Bright Colors Curl Up with a Good Book- Students will pay $1 (to raise money for Literacy Council, which will be used to support ELA) Reading is the road to Success Wear your favorite College Sportswear and Jeans

Book Character Dress Up Day Students need to bring their book along with their costume to participate. If they don t have the book they can bring a print out of the book cover or draw the book cover themselves! Book Character Parade The students and staff will parade around the school to celebrate literacy week! Other Events: Poinciana Public Library will be visiting to read to the students and to sign up families for library cards Medieval Times will be visiting to read to the students

January 28- February 1, 2019 Poem in MY Pocket We will kick off Celebrate Literacy Week with Mrs. Davenport reading the poem, A Poem in MY Pocket on the morning announcements. Teachers will provide students with opportunities to find poems or write poems during the week. If students show any of the Leadership team a poem in their pocket, they will get a cookie. January 28 Snuggle up with a good book: Wear silly or snuggly socks and get cozy with a book *bring in book(s) for book exchange January 29 Future is bright when reading: Wear sunglasses and read outside (students can take books out before/after recess) *bring in book(s) for book exchange January 30 January 31 Hunt for a good book: Wear camo and read around the room Book Exchange Students will exchange books brought from home for different books. 10 Lakeview Elementary CLW 2019 Plan Celebrate Literacy Week, Florida! January 28 Lei down and read! Wear a Lei to school. January 29 Reading makes you bright! Wear bright colors to school. January 30 Reading takes you places! Wear your best tourist gear or Hawaiian shirt to school. Intermediate grades will travel to a primary classroom to buddy read. January 31 Surf into a good story! Wear sunglasses to school. February 1 Hula loves to read? Students have an opportunity to hula hoop during recess and participate in drop everything and read in their classroom. To kick off Literacy Week, we will be having a Literacy Luau on January 26, 2019 from 11:00 am to 1:00 pm. This event will have many Hawaiian themed literacy activities, a book fair, and an opportunity to meet an author. We will have community members including; Orlando City Soccer and Wonderworks passing out books to students. Families have an opportunity to read together in our butterfly garden and watch special presentations on stage. It will be a day filled with reading, learning, and fun!

11 KOA Elementary Celebrate Literacy Week, Florida! January 28 Reading Rocks! Wear Wacky Socks! Students and teachers wear crazy, mismatched socks. Drop Everything And Read on this day. January 29 Reading Gives You Super Powers! Students and Teachers dress like a super hero. Read stories about heroes and legends on this day. January 30 Score with a Good Book! Students and teachers wear jerseys from their favorite team. Read sports-themed stories. January 31 Theater Thursday Students will perform readers theaters in class this day. February 1 Flashlight Friday Teachers and students wear pajamas to school, bring a flashlight, and read their favorite book in class. *Ongoing: Book Swap throughout the week in the media center, Door decorating contest

January 28 th January 29th January 30 th January 31 st February 1 st Snuggle up with a good book Students are invited to wear their pajamas to school and will sit in the hallway outside their classroom to read a book of their choice. Grades K-2, 9am-9:20am Grades 3-5, 1:30pm- 1:50pm Hats on for Reading!! Students and staff will wear their favorite hat. Guest Readers Community readers will visit classrooms throughout the day to read a book and talk about how literacy is important in their lives. Buddy Read!! Students will pair up to read their favorite book. 5 th Grade will pair up with 2 nd Grade 4 th Grade will pair up with 1 st Grade 3 rd Grade will pair up with Kindergarten Character Dress up Day!! Students and staff will dress up as their favorite story book character in Celebration of our last day of Literacy Week

13 Michigan Avenue Elementary Celebrate Literacy Week Spreading Literacy, One View at a Time Michigan Avenue Elementary will celebrate all week with reading activities and sharing our love for reading. Monday January 28 th Superhero Day! Students and staff will dress as their favorite superhero. Tuesday January 29 th Time Travel! Students and staff will dress in attire that is from the past or future. Wednesday January 30 th Thursday January 31 th Friday February 1 st Partner Read with Another Class D.E.A.R. (Drop Everything and Read) for 30 minutes Book/Vocabulary Parade Each classroom finds a partner classroom above or below their grade level to read with throughout the day for 30 minutes. Students and staff will start the day with a good book of their choice. K-2 students and staff will have an author study to dress up; 3-5 students and staff will choose a vocabulary word to depict-each will parade through a route for others to see their love of books and words. Read, read, and read! Take as many AR tests for books that you read. Three students per grade level with the highest AR points will be awarded a Chick-fil-A treat gift card at the end of Literacy Week (1/28-2/1). Prizes will be awarded for each grade level for Superhero Day, Time Travel, and Costumes (K-2)/Vocabulary (3-5)

14 New Beginnings Celebrate Literacy Week, Florida! January 28 Classroom Door Decorating Contest: Teachers will decorate their door with decor from a book that has influenced their lives. January 29 Book Talk: Every teachers will have a 5 minute discussion with students about the book on their door. January 30 Buddy Read: All students in ELA classes will do a buddy read. Students will read and discuss an article or book to each other. January 31 Book Skit: A select group of students will perform a skit during breakfast to the whole school. The skit will be related to a book that they've read. February 1 Book in the Bag: All students in Reading Class will create a book in the bag. The each side of the bag will relate to a different literacy element.

Sports Illustrated KIDS Day! Wear Your Favorite Sports Team Go Pack Go! Who Dey? Fins Up! It s A Bucs Life! Fly Eagles Fly! Whatever it Takes! College. NFL. NBA. MLB. NPF. NHL. PGA. WNBA. No matter what team you are cheering for, show your support! Reading Buddies! Classes will buddy up with another class to read together. Miss Alaineus, A Vocabulary Disaster! Wear Your Vocabulary Word Think of an unusual vocabulary word. Make a creative, homemade costume to show your vocabulary word. Be sure your word is visible somewhere on you. Wear/Bring your costume to school. Class winners will be in a VOCABULARY PARADE at the end of the day! VOCABULARY PARADE! READING GALAXY Teachers will have stars for students and staff will write the title of the book(s) they read throughout the week. These stars will be posted in the lobby. Mystery Reader Readers will read a synopsis of a book. Students will guess who the mystery reader was.

Suggested activity students can compare and contrast reading online vs. reading printed text, discuss and share in class. Guess the Book Emoji Style! (all week) students guess titles of books using emoji s as text. Guest Readers (all week) Teachers can schedule time for surprise guests to read aloud to their students. Reading Makes Us Brighter! wear your coolest sunglasses! Book Tastings in the Library Teachers can schedule a visit to the library to sample new books to read. Literacy Family Night Event Bingo for Books! Wild About Reading Wednesday! wear your craziest clothing! Suggested activity buddy up with another class and read together. Author Visit (K-2) Kristen Waldbieser, author of The Story of Princess Audrey January 31 Book Tastings in the Library Teachers can schedule a visit to the library to sample new books to read. I Mustache You to Read More Books! students who are caught reading can earn a small prize. February 1 Author Visit (K-5) Peter Raymundo, author of Third Grade Mermaid World Read Aloud Day! - Guest Readers Teachers can schedule time for surprise guests to read aloud to their students.

17 Partin Settlement s Literacy Events January 28 AR Challenge begins: The classroom with the most AR points and highest accuracy percentage will earn a banner for their door. One class per grade level. January 29 Pizza party for one class in grade 3-5 with the most points and highest accuracy. Pizza party for one class in grade K-2 with the most points and highest accuracy. Chill Out with a Cool Book: Students may wear winter wear: scarves, winter hats and mittens. January 30 Reading Gives You Super Powers: Students may wear a super hero t-shirt. January 31 Sock it to Reading: Students will wear silly socks. February 1 Reading Makes Your Dreams Come True: Students may wear their College t-shirts. February 7 Special Guest: Peter Raymundo will meet with all students during block time. Literacy Night: Peter Raymundo will attend, we will have literacy games and the book fair was going on.

January 29 Readers are Leaders Event- Business partners, Osceola deputies, and volunteers will read to our students. January 30 Bookmark day- Students will design and decorate a bookmark. The bookmarks will be laminated. January 31 Sock it to Reading Day- Students will wear crazy socks to celebrate the joy of reading. February 1 Word of the Day/Vocabulary Parade- Students will dress up as as a vocabulary word. Students will have an opportunity to display their vocabulary word during a parade.
