1 INR 2002 Research Paper Assignment In writing your research paper you will use one of the provided topics to describe and analyze the particular situation or event by incorporating one of the theories and paradigm discuss in the course (ex: Realism, Liberalism, Feminism, Constructionism, Radicalism/Marxism) as part of your analysis. As discuss in the syllabus, the paper will be a 10-page paper in APA format. It should be typed and double-spaced on standard-sized paper (8.5" x 11") with 1" margins on all sides using 12 pt. Times New Roman font. The APA formatting and citations can be found at Purdue University s Owl on-line writing lab Your paper should include four major sections: the Title Page, Abstract, Main Body, and References. Title Page - The title page should contain the title of the paper and should conform to the format of An Analysis of (chosen topic) from the (chosen paradigm) perspective it should also have the author's name, class title, Valencia College and student VID number. Abstract - write a concise summary of the key points of your research. Your abstract should contain at least your research topic, research questions, participants, methods, results, data analysis, and conclusions. You may also include possible implications of your research and future work you see connected with your findings. Your abstract should be a single paragraph double-spaced. Your abstract should be between 150 and 250 words. Main Body- The main body should have six or more paragraphs containing five or more sentences. It should introduce the topic of analysis, describe the issue or event, present your evidence, analysis the evidence, discuss any possible outcome and summarize your findings. 1) Paragraph 1 will introduce the topic of your paper and will include your thesis, paradigm you have chosen and the level of analysis to be employed. 2) Paragraph 2- describes the events or issues, provide historical background, and explain all implications to the international system. 3) Paragraph 3 identify the paradigm you have chosen to analyze your particular issue, and why it offers particular insights into your subject. Define your paradigm. 4) Paragraph 4 expand the analysis of your topic and provide any insights you have developed in studying the issue. 5) Paragraph 5 discuss any implications that your chosen paradigm has on your chosen topic or event. 6) Paragraph 6 describe any alternative paradigm that can have implications to the topic and event you have chosen. 7) Paragraph 7 - summarize your findings and conclusions. 1

2 References you should include cite at least Five Sources for your research. Ensure your sources are from scholarly sources such as academic journals, books, reports, or other scholarly publications. Information from blogs, questionable websites or Wikipedia is not acceptable. APA citing of references is an in text reference method and does not require footnotes. For in text citation, the citations come at the end of the borrowed ideas, words, or sentences. For example: When citing a source document use (Purdue, 2015) When summarizing or paraphrasing use (Purdue, 2015, p.7) When do you have to cite your sources? 1) When you quote something, you must give credit by citing your source. 2) When you copy something word-for-word, you must give credit by citing your source. 3) When you paraphrase someone's ideas, you must give them credit by citing your source 4) When you summarize someone's ideas, you must give them credit by citing your source In order to avoid the charge of plagiarism please refrain from the following actions; 1) Copying or paraphrasing another's words without documenting (or citing) your source. 2) Stating or summarizing another's ideas or opinions without documenting your source. 3) Downloading something from the Internet, including a graphic, and then using it in your paper without documenting your source. 4) Making a copy of someone else's paper and then handing it in as your own. 5) Paying for or otherwise obtaining a paper or presentation, and then handing it in as your own (this includes, of course, papers written by friends and fellow students). All works cited should be in an alphabetical list of all sources quoted, paraphrased or summarized. It should be at the end of the paper, and begin on a separate sheet of paper. Please follow the examples provided by the Purdue University Owl on-line writing lab guidelines. Prior approval is required before starting research paper. No two students can work on the same topic. I will also need to be consulted if you decide to pursue a different topic that is not already listed. If a student turns in a paper with a title that is different from the title the student was approved for, the paper will not be accepted. For example: If a student is approved to write about American foreign policy in a post 9/11 world from the Realist Perspective, yet the title of the paper turn in states The Immorality of the 2003 invasion of Iraq. 3 The paper is due on April 17, 2019 and will be returned to you during the day of the final exam. Please me a copy of your paper, as well as provide me with a printed copy. Papers not turned in on the due date will not be accepted. The 17 th of April will also be the last day to turn in all uncompleted work. I will not accept any work turned in after this day. If you suffer a personal emergency and cannot be in class to turn your paper in on the due date, then prior approval by the professor will be needed before your paper can be turn in via . If I approve you to turn in the paper by on a certain time, and I do not get it at the appointed time, then I will have 10 points deducted from your research paper. For Example: If I tell you to send me your work via no later that midnight on a Friday, yet I do no get it till Monday, you will get an automatic 10 points deducted from your final grade. These research papers take time, so do not wait till the last minute to start working on them.
