Note from the Club President I wish everyone a wonderful holiday season! I hope that you have time to enjoy family and friends this holiday period. I hope to see many of you at the December events. Happy Holidays! Diane Trail Talk This month's trail talk focuses on our December events: two walks and a swim the weekend of December 7-9. All the events start at the Clarion Hotel on York Street in Williamsburg. You may begin the night walk between 3-6 p.m. on Friday or Saturday. Please remember your flashlight! You may begin the day walk between 8 a.m.-1 p.m. on Sat and Sun. There are 5 km and 10 km trails available on both day and night walks. The swim start times are 3-6 p.m. Friday, 10 a.m.- 6 p.m. Saturday and 10 a.m.-1 p.m. Sunday. The swim is 300 meters. If you have never tried a swimming event, bring your swimsuit and give it a try! Williamsburg Walk News -Cookies to share! Club members are asked to bring cookies to the Williamsburg walks to share. -Missing a Williamsburg House? Here s your chance to add to your collection! This year, the Pathfinders will host a Silent Auction for your choice of a previously offered December A- award wooden house. The club has a house from all years except 2009 and The Silent Auction will run from 3 p.m. on Friday, Dec 7 until 3 p.m. Saturday, Dec 8. Look for the auction in the start/finish room at the Clarion. -We had two workers walks in

2 November for workers who are signed up to work the Dec walks. Pictured are some club members at the workers walk. children, grandchildren, and greatgrandchildren. Happy 30 th Birthday The Peninsula Pathfinders of Virginia was formed December 27, We will have our 30 th Anniversary walks on May 18, Save the date! Club Meetings -Note that the next club meeting will be held on MARCH 20, Bill Lowell, Annette Tollett, Ron Berard, and Shirley Boyd at the workers walk in Nov. Club News - If possible, please wear a club t-shirt or sweatshirt, when you are volunteering. -Cindy Edahl was recognized for her contributions to volksmarching with a VVA certificate, presented at the Nov club meeting. -Bill Zimmerman walked in NYC in October. Membership renewal Don t forget to turn in your Club membership renewal form. You may mail it in or turn it in at the December Williamsburg walks. The form may be found at the end of this newsletter. Fill it out today!! - Look for a list of 2013 walks, club and board meeting dates in the January Compass. -The Club is sad to inform you of the death of life member Naomi Criner who passed away on Oct 31, 2012 in Newport News, VA. Naomi was known for her needlework and quilting, being honored with a one woman show at the Hampton City Hall. She is survived by her husband, Eugene, and many Compass 2 Don t Forget -- Holiday Party! When: 6:30 p.m. DECEMBER 12, 2012 Where: Al Fresco s, Jefferson Ave, Newport News. 3 The Club will raffle a two night stay at the Clarion Hotel as a door prize. You must attend the party to be eligible to win the raffle. Instead of doing a gift exchange, the Club asks everyone to bring a donation for the food bank. Thanks to Mary and Pat Parker for coordinating the party. April 19-21, Go to the Victoria page for full details on the festival, registration, and hotel discounts Atlantic Regional Conference will be held March 14-16, 2014 in Lancaster, PA. AVA News. -AVA Special Program books may be completed for up to 12 months following the ending date. VVA Update - VVA meeting, Dec 8 at 1:30 p.m. in Williamsburg at the Clarion Hotel. VVA election of officers. -If you are planning to walk the VVA Old Post Office Walk in Washington D.C. on Dec 15, consider stopping in Fredericksburg on your way home to walk the Germanna Volkssport Association s Holiday Night Walk, starting between 3-6 p.m. at the Blarney Stone Restaurant in Downtown Fredericksburg. -The Greenbrier (Chesapeake, VA) YRE is closed until further notice because the walk lost its starting location. Travel Alert NY & NJ: The New York City walks have recovered from Hurricane Sandy and are open for walking. The Atlantic City and Cape May walks are also functioning. The other shore walks are still out of service at this time. -PLEASE CHECK THE AVA WEBSITE, FOR STARTING POINT CHANGES, BEFORE TRAVELING TO A YRE. Victoria, British Columbia, Canada: The Volkssport Clubs of South Vancouver Island will host the third Victoria Volkssport Phoenix Festival on Compass 3 IVV Volkssport Olympiad. The 13 th edition of the IVV Volkssport Olympiad will take place June 2013 in the Gardena Valley in South Tyrol, Italy. Activities will begin with an opening ceremony on 25 June, then continue with four days filled with walk, swim, and bike events and spectacular mountain scenery. For additional information in English, visit their website Feb 15-18, 2013, Presidents Day Weekend. Orange Beach, Alabama. Georgia Walkers and Capital City Wanderers are sponsoring 14 Events (7 walks, 4 swims, 3 bikes). The negotiated rate of $99 applies only to the convention dates Monday, April 29 thru Friday, May 3.
