5 Narcoossee Middle School Literacy Week Kick-Off-Morning Announcements about Book Cover Biographies- Pages were passed out in ELA classes last week. The theme for this year is Find Yourself in a Book. Students were given a large piece of construction paper to design a book cover that represents a book about themselves, to go along with the Literacy Week theme. Students will explain their biographies on the inside book flap and we will display these in the Media Center and around the school later in the week. Book Fair Kicks Off. Dress for Success -Students that choose to participate will dress up as if going to a job or on a job interview. Reading builds character and helps us learn how to succeed. We are following through with the thought that students that read have a better chance of being successful in future endeavors. Teachers will be video-taped for their Way Back Wednesday book talk. Way Back Wednesday -Students will be asked to bring a favorite book from their childhood or to be prepared to share about a favorite book from their childhood. Students that bring books will be asked to give a quick Book Talk as to why the book was their favorite and what memory they have from reading this book or having the book read to them. NJHS Students will read to Narcoossee Elementary School from 1:00 2:00. This year students will be reading and acting out poetry-performance Poetry Day. Literacy Night at NCMS along with NCES-Book Fair will be open during the evening. We will host a Read-In with NCES for K-2 students, then we will host a Coffee House for NCES 3-5 grade and NCMS students. Students will have a chance to read poetry and short stories of their own during this time period. Food Trucks will be on campus for people to purchase meals and desserts will be sold by Academic Boosters. Poetry Contest winners will be announced and our NCMS bands and chorus will perform. A Pie the Teacher fundraiser for our author visit Readers Are College Bound Students will wear their college t-shirts or jerseys as a way of supporting AVID and reading as a good habit for college and career bound students.

Family Literacy Night/ Book Swap Caught reading and student receives a dress down wristband for Friday. Dress down with students who received wristbands. Drop Everything and Write topics provided by leadership team.
7 New Beginnings Education Center K-3 rd grades Dr. Maldonado: Utilizing the theme "Find Yourself in a Book" students will create posters depicting themselves noticing nonfiction text features. 4 th and 5 th grades Ms. Douglas: Students will choose new books from the Sunshine State Young Readers Award to "buddy read" with Dr. Maldonado's students. 6 th -8 th grades Intensive Reading Ms. Hernandez: Students will create posters highlighting book genres. 6 th -12 th grades ELA Ms. Chambers, Ms. Luckett and Ms. Vargas: Students will create a film strip of a story they read and share with peers. 9 th -12 th grades Intensive Reading Ms. Herring and Ms. Martin: Students will create a "Book in a Bag" and present to their classmates (through student created artifacts) an oral book report.
8 Celebration High School Seniors who participated in the FTR (Florida Teen Reads) collaborative project will present book trailers in the media center. There will be four presentations in the media center during SURGE (Tutoring) and lunch. 3 rd Annual Bookmark Contest- Students will design a bookmark entailing the theme of this year, which is Celebration Teen Reads. We are celebrating students reading. FTR Book Club will create QR codes for book recommendations. Students will put QR codes in all buildings. Poetry Slam-Students will engage in a poetry slam during lunch in the media center. Students can recite an original poem or create a poem to present. Dress up like your favorite book character- Students will pick their favorite book character and dress up like the character. Dress code guidelines will be discussed later.
