1 ALEXANDER Literary Firsts & Poetry RARE BOOKS An Occasional List St. Patrick's Day Beckett, Samuel. HAPPY DAYS. London: Faber & Faber, First U.K. Edition. New York: Grove Press, First U.S. Edition. Green cloth in dust jacket; 8vo. Attractive copy in unusually bright, complete (not price-clipped; $2.75) near fne dust jacket with just the lightest edgewear; the top edge of cloth lightly soiled, else fne. [12959] $ Clarke, Austin. THE ECHO AT COOLE & Other Poems. Dublin: Dolmen, First edition. Burgundy cloth in dust jacket; small 8vo. 78 pp. A lovely crisp copy of this Irish poet's signifcant collection; jacket has just a a hint of toning, else fne (price-clipped). [8845] 4. Colum, Padraic. DRAMATIC LEGENDS AND OTHER POEMS. New York: Macmillan, First American edition. [x], 100 pp. paper-covered boards w/cloth spine, printed paper label, Inscribed by Padraic Colum on the front fyleaf to "my dear friend Harry Laffan (sp)...". On the last printed page is in Colum's hand a heavily revised version of his poem "John Butler Yeats" (who died in 1922, the year of publication). Although I can not discover anything on Mr. Laffan, clearly he is a close friend, as this poem addresses him in two heavily revised lines, with two additional closing lines. As such, a heavily reworked version of an important poem. Unfortunately the printed version (newspaper) has been pasted in on the adjoining page causing signifcant offsetting. Considerable wear to the tips and somewhat less to the head and foot; interior quite clean and bright, thus better than good; lacking the scarce dust jacket. [6235] $ Colum, Padraic. WILD EARTH: A Book of Verse. Dublin: Maunsel & Co., First Edition. Linen-backed boards; 16mo. Inscribed on the half-title by the poet in 1937, with a previous owner's name and "Christmas 1907 (the publication month was December)" above. 39 pp. A few light pencil marks, light foxing at the extremities, separating at half-title, but about very good. Lacking rare dust jacket. The poet's frst book, which went into a new edition in 1909, and was expanded in later years. Quite scarce in the marketplace, and rare signed. [11911] $ Deanne, John F.
