3 Sunday, September 17 OPEN 1 to 5 Visit our Calendar of Events or Print out a copy of the September Calendar News and Notes Like Us on Facebook Follow Us on Twitter Follow Us on Instagram! - hvlibrary Visit us on Pinterest - hvlibrary Director's Corner We are investigating a few different options for a new streaming service (think Netflix, but for a public library) to be generously underwritten by the Friends (who bring us all of our great new collections, like Playways). I am looking for something with music, but would welcome movies and audiobooks. I'm not sure why it's taken me so long to realize that CDs and DVDs will go the way of VHS, soon to be replaced by streaming music and movies. I know we all thought ebooks would make print books obsolete, but we talked about this at our staff meeting and agree that reading is another matter entirely from listening or watching. Personally, I listen to Pandora and watch movies on Netflix or Amazon. I don't even have a way to watch DVDs at home. Am I the new normal? If I could stream movies, TV shows, and new music from the library, would I? Probably - just like I check out the odd ebook from OverDrive while I'm waiting for one of my pre-ordered titles to auto-magically appear on my Kindle. (I'm a bad library patron. I buy most of my books.) What do you think? Would you use a movie/music/audiobook streaming service through the Library? We have a few options: Acorn.tv - sort of the British version of Netflix that streams BBC shows Qello - streams live music concerts, including opera and classical, along with the Rolling Stones and Mumford and Sons Hoopla - a product just for libraries that offers kids movies, music, audiobooks, graphic novels, and ebooks Library users in Bucks County and Philadelphia already have access to Hoopla (and a ton more). Let us know, we'd love your input.
