It should not contain any references or displayed equations. Typeset the abstract in Times Roman and indent the text. Type similarly the keywords below. Keywords: Keyword1; keyword2; keyword3. 1. General Appearance Contributions to the Journal of Earthquake & Tsunami will be reproduced from the author s discs. These should be submitted with the manuscripts, and resubmitted in final form if a paper requires revision before being accepted for publication. The title should be produced in bold capitals. 2. The Main Text Contributions are to be in English. Authors are encouraged to have the grammar of their contribution checked. English spelling should preferably be used, rather than American. Abbreviations are allowed but should be spelt out in full when first used. Integers of ten and below are to be spelt out. Italicise foreign language phrases (e.g. Latin, French). Typeset names in 8 pt roman, uppercase. Use the footnote to indicate the present or permanent address of the author. 1

Major Headings Major headings or section headings should be typeset in boldface with the first letter of important words capitalised Sub-headings Sub-headings should be typed in boldface italic with the first letter of the first word capitalised. Section numbers are to be in boldface roman Sub-subheadings Typeset sub-subheadings in medium face italic and capitalise the first letter of the first word only. Section numbers to be in roman Numbering and Spacing Sections, sub-sections and sub-subsections are numbered in Arabic. Leave two blank lines before and one blank line after major and subheadings, and leave one blank line before but not blank line after sub-subheadings Lists of Items Lists may be laid out with each item marked by a bullet-point: item one, item two. Alternatively items may also be numbered in lowercase roman numerals: (i) item one. (ii) item two, (a) lists within lists can be numbered with lowercase Roman letters, (b) second item. 4. Equations Displayed equations should be numbered consecutively in each section, with the number set flush right and enclosed in parentheses. They are to be centered on the page width. Standard English letters like x are to appear as x (italicised) in the text if they are used as mathematical symbols. Punctuation marks are used at the end of equations as if they appeared directly in the text. Conventional symbols and SI units should be adopted and used consistently. Where Imperial units are used the SI equivalent should appear in parentheses. Equations should be referred to in abbreviated form, e.g. Eq. (4.1) or (4.1). In multiple-line equations, the number should be given on the last line.

3 Instructions for Typing Manuscripts (Paper s Title) 3 5. Illustrations and Photographs Figures are to be supplied as separate hard copies. Each should be placed on a separate page or sheet. They will be inserted in the text nearest their first reference. Original indian ink drawings, glossy prints or laser printed hard copies are preferred. Please send one set of originals with copies. If the author requires the publisher to reduce the figures, ensure that the figures (including letterings and numbers) are large enough to be clearly seen after reduction, probably a 50% reduction. Previously published material must be accompanied by written permission from the author and publisher. 6. Tables Tables are to be numbered sequentially using Arabic numerals. 4 4 Authors Names 7. Discussions Discussions on published papers should be forwarded to the editors within one month of the publication of the paper and should not exceed one A4 page. A response from the author(s), within the same length limit, will be sought. Both will be published in the next available issue. 8. References References cited in the text should be placed within square brackets and state as [surname of author(s), year of publication], e.g., [Smith, 1964], [Smith and Thomas, 1964] and, with three or more authors, [Smith et al., 1964]. If the reference reads as part of the sentences, the square brackets enclose only the year of publication, e.g., According to Smith [1964],... A complete list of references cited, arranged in alphabetical order according to the surname of the first author, should be provided. References by the same author will follow a chronological sequence, i.e., Smith [1969] precedes Smith [1971]. Footnotes Footnotes should be numbered sequentially in superscript lowercase Roman letters, and typed in Times Roman at the bottom of the page. Acknowledgements This section should come before the References. Funding information may also be included here. Appendix Appendices should be used only when absolutely necessary. They should come before the References. If there is more than one appendix, number them alphabetically. Number displayed equations occurring in the Appendix in this way, e.g. (A.1), (A.2), etc.
