1 Volusia County Secondary Reading/ELA Celebrate Literacy Week, Florida January 25 29, 2016 Monday, January 25th Student Book Swap Monday through Thursday, students can bring a gently used chapter book to their Reading class and receive a Book Swap ticket. On Friday, they will exchange their ticket for another book. Faculty Book Swap Monday through Thursday, teachers can bring a gently used chapter book to Media Center and receive a Book Swap ticket. On Friday, they will come and exchange their ticket for another book. One Million Minute Marathon Students will read for a minimum of 20 min. in each class Drop off books to the Media Center to participate in Wednesday s book swap. See Mrs. Smith for details. Literacy Changes our World poster contest will be announced through the morning announcements. Judging with winners being announced on Friday. All entries will be displayed in the Media Center. Public Service Announcements for the District Literacy Fair are due. Media staff interview teacher and staff regarding favorite books. Book Mark Contest Announced Read my Shirt Everyone wear a t Shirt displaying a positive message. (one day activity) LAUNCH LITERACY POSTER CONTEST EACH CLASS WILL CREATE A 7 Ways a Day to Literacy! All classes are invited to participate in having their students read or 20 minutes in their academic text. Million Minute Marathon: All students, all classes Spelling Bee Dress in Black and Yellow DEAR! Drop Everything and Read. During Period 1, every class across the campus will drop what they are doing, and every students will read a book, magazine, or other text of their choice for 20 minutes without interruption. This is the day to celebrate the joy of reading for pleasure. People from the community as well as our students and school staff will be participating. Participants are all being encouraged to dress up as a literary character. Students seen reading across the campus by adults will receive a ticket for a drawing surprise. They will put their name and alpha on the ticket and enter it into a drawing bucket in the cafeteria Friday.
