1 THE REGULATION to support the License Thesis for the specialty 711. Medicine 1
2 Graduation thesis at the Faculty of Medicine is an essential component in evaluating the student s work. This tests the ability to conceive and carry out independent research under the rules of the scientific community. Diploma thesis at the Faculty of Medicine aims to: - initiating research for students and learning methods in medical research; - systematization of theoretical knowledge and professional enrichment, their implementation in scientific problem solving, organizational; - assessing the capacity and readiness of the individual graduate to postgraduate work. I. GENERAL REQUIREMENTS 1.1. License thesis is a component of State Graduation Exam Undergraduate thesis topics are proposed by departments, approved at Faculty Council and shall be distributed to students starting in Semester VII Theses can be executed in two or more cooperation within the university departments Scientific Coordinators of the theses are proposed and approved at Faculty Council Chair Medicine (theses leaders may be appointed professors, associate professors, assistant professors, senior lecturers and research scientists of the specialized departments specializing in problem) License thesis is made based on clinical trial, experimental, general (bibliographic study) License theses will be written in the language the student studies in the Medical and Pharmaceutical State University The thesis support (presentation) will take place during the semester XII. II. THE REQUIREMENTS TO THE THESIS: 2.1. The thesis is written in accordance with the requirements submitted to the scientific theses and training must reflect the graduate level and ability to reflect in writing their knowledge and conclusions It accepts following work titles degree: systematically review of the studied problem, fundamental studies, clinical trials, epidemiology, etc The thesis should prove the student s work with the relevant literature concerning the theme approached. It should be correct from the methodological point of view and data analysis. The facts should have a logical structure and the argumentation should be strong, also it should be coherently written in a scientific language The volume of the thesis will be from 35 to 50 pages. Illustrative material, figures, tables, images, annexes and bibliographic references are not taken into account in work volume Theses are written on white paper A4 size 210 x 297 mm, on one side of the paper. The pages of the thesis have field: left - 30 mm, top - 25 mm, right - 10 mm, bottom - 25 mm. The thesis is drawn using the following computerized appropriate diacritical marks: -14 pt font, 1.5 intervals. It is possible to use capitalization when writing titles, font 14, highlighting certain words in Bold All pages of the thesis, including those that contain photos, figures, annexes are numbered in regular order beginning from the title page and ending with the last page, without admitting failing or repeating them, the number is on the right field of the page up or down (first page is considered the title page) The title page is written in Annex Each chapter as well as the introduction, bibliography, annex shall start on a new page The name of the chapters is written with capital letters and numbered with Roman numerals (I, II). Subchapters names are written in lowercase and numbered with Arabic numbers (1.1, 2.2 etc.) The name of the tables is written in the middle of the page, the first letter - capitalized, without putting the point at the end of the name. On the right side, above the table name is 2
3 written the word ( Table 2.10 ), followed by the numeration of the chapter and table number of the relevant chapter text Thesis can be illustrated with diagrams, drawings, photographs, graphics, diagrams etc. Their name is written below illustration and the word starts with "Fig. ( Fig.2.1. ), followed by the figure numeration that consists of the chapter number and serial number of the figure in the same chapter In the thesis is accepted abbreviation of word combinations, of composed words, words commonly used, but only in accordance with linguistic rules provided and they shouldn t create difficulties in reading the text and produce ambiguities Printing paper of the thesis must be qualitative (letters, symbols, formulas, figures should have the same intensity over the line, page, work as a whole, index formulas legible), so as to ensure its reproduction by xerographic clear. (It is recommended the laser printer to print the thesis.) The sentence does not accept notes, patches, outlining the letters, erasures, stains, additions to the page, etc The conclusions are written at the end of each chapter, and general conclusions - at the end of the thesis In reference literature are references to bibliographic sources for each text, at the end indicating the number in the rectangular brackets [2,5,10, 32] The bibliography at the end of the thesis shall be indicated in alphabetical order beginning with the Latin, then Cyrillic in the appropriate alphabetical order, respecting the rules for writing bibliographic sources. III. THE STRUCTURE OF THE LICENCE THESIS The structure of the license thesis comprises the following sections: - content; - introduction; - bibliographic analysis of the topic; - material and research methods; - own results and discussion; - general conclusions; - references; - annexes (if necessary). The Content is recommended to be placed at the beginning of manuscript after the title page, where will be listed the names of chapters and subchapters, indicating the page on which they are located. The Introduction must include: a. actuality and level of research of investigated theme; b. purpose and objectives of the thesis; c. importance of theoretical and scientific results; The introduction volume should not exceed 2-3 pages. In "Bibliographic review of the topic" a critical assessment of the literature to the theme explored is performed. It will present the main theories / explicative models, indicating the development and progress made by recent research, and possible gaps or limits. The literature review should be made according to an explicit and specified criterion that can be chronological, thematic or otherwise. Through its content, the theoretical basis should focus on further foundation of the advanced hypotheses. This part of the student's thesis must demonstrate the 3
4 ability to select the most relevant bibliographical sources, to read and critically analyze, to formulate their own view on the studied subject. The chapter that presents the theoretical framework of the problem must not exceed 30% of the number of pages in the thesis. In the chapter "Material and research methods" are described the material and methods used in research and statistical processing methods of the data. In the chapter Personal results and discussion are described the obtained results and their discussion. The results should be clear reflected in the used methods and research design. Tables and figures which give research results will be included in this part of the paper. Alternative and contextual explanations, as well as the implications of discussed outcome are welcomed. Interpretation of their data will be made by reference to the data in the literature, indicating the similarities and differences. Conclusions will include a summary of results, mention how to achieve the objectives set out in the introduction and will reflect the personal views and contribution in the study and elucidation of the problem approached. In the Annexes different materials can be adjoined (questionnaire survey, investigations, charts, photographs, case report) and other relevant materials for the undertaken study. Bibliography - located at the end of the thesis text contains bibliographic sources used in the paper. Bibliographic data and citations are completed in accordance with national standards relating to library, information and documentation. References are presented in numerical sequence corresponding to the alphabetic order. All bibliographic sources included in the paper must be included in the final reference list, as all the authors included in the reference list must be inserted into the paper. For sources taken from the Internet, will be denoted website addresses. In the final bibliography, they should be included in the final list. IV. THE ASSESSMENT OF THE LICENSE THESIS Thesis is presented in final form at the Department for prior support at least one month before the deadline indicated for support. Thesis is covered after approval at the Department meeting and after is submitted to the State Commission of Examination. Thesis defense takes place in open session of the State Commission of Examination, in the presence of at least two thirds of its members, in a form of summary exposure by the author of the work (which is given minutes). Support procedure includes also the speeches of the scientific coordinator, questions can be addressed to the author. Anyone present at the thesis support can be involved in the discussion. The results of the thesis support shall be communicated to students during the same day, after the meeting of the State Commission of Examination. To support the license thesis each student is granted up to one academic hour. The decision about the mark is taken at a closed meeting of the State Commission of Examination according to the scale of assessment. The State Commission of Examination s decision is final and can not be revisited. 4
5 The Commission has the right to recommend for publication the most valuable works, primarily those based on the student's research work or accomplished on the basis of an original or experimental material, containing important theoretical and practical recommendations and proposals. If the work was assessed with a mark under 5.00, the State Commission of Examination decides whether the same work, after necessary corrections may be repeatedly submitted to support or not. V. THE EVALUATION OF THE LICENSE THESIS For an unitary asses of the thesis, the following assessment scales were prepared: Work evaluation scale by the coordinator teacher. Nr. Presentation of the work and answering questions 5 puncte The final mark of the presented paper is calculated by applying the coefficients in the following formula: N f = (0,4*N p ) + (0,6*N c ), where: Np - mark given by the teacher Nc - mark given by the commission 5
