Issue 1, Volume 17 Director s Letter Library Services Anytime We are braced for the upcoming holidays, as I am sure you are too. Life moves at a much faster pace until the New Year is underway. The library has been under construction this fall inside and out. We thank you for your patience as we improve facilities for your use. There may be times when it is hard to get in to the library or too cold to go out in the weather, and we would like you to know about all of the options that are available to you from your library without ever dropping in! We have services that are available 24/7 so that you are never at a loss for reading material. Answers After Hours Ever have a reference question when the library is closed? Ask Here PA is a live chat reference service that is free for all Pennsylvania residents and students. This service is available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year. Ask Here Pa is staffed by librarians from over 100 Pennsylvania Some of our services are new, some are updated, and some we just wanted to remind you are still there for you when you need them. If you happen to be gifted with a new device this year, you may want to be sure to download our app and open up to all the new possibilities from our website. We'll be doing what from FREE with your library card. Read on for details on each service and give them a try to find out what you have been missing. Free Music Downloads Freegal Music is a free music service from The Indiana Free Library. All you need is your library card number and PIN.

In total the collection is comprised of music from over 28,000+ labels with music that originates in over 80 countries.

The site is set up to browse or search for your favorite music or artist. You will see some of the most popular music on Freegal on the Home page.

You can also use this bar to navigate to the Genres page where you can scroll through all of the genres and artists on the Freegal site.

3 Free Music Downloads Freegal Music is a free music service from The Indiana Free Library. All you need is your library card number and PIN. Freegal offers access to about 8 million songs, including Sony Music s catalog of legendary artists. In total the collection is comprised of music from over 28,000+ labels with music that originates in over 80 countries. There is no software to download, and there are no digital rights management (DRM) restrictions. You can download up to 3 songs per week and stream music for 3 hours per day. The site is set up to browse or search for your favorite music or artist. You will see some of the most popular music on Freegal on the Home page. You can use the navigation bar toward the top of the page to view different pages, such as Most Popular in your library or in the U.S., or the New Releases. You can also use this bar to navigate to the Genres page where you can scroll through all of the genres and artists on the Freegal site. Additionally, you can use the search bar at the very top of the page to search for artists, albums, songs, or a combination (such as bruce springsteen high hopes ). A download usage counter is located in the upper right corner of freegalmusic.com displaying your weekly allotment. For instance, 1/3 means that you have a weekly limit of 3 downloads, and you have used 1 of those downloads. The download counter resets each week at Monday 12:01 AM (Eastern Time, USA). For more information or instructions on how to use Freegal stop in the library and ask one of the librarians. We would be happy to show you how it Online Resources The library has created a list of websites and online resources to assist you. At our website, click on the Resources Tab to find links to information on health care, education, technology and more. You will also find links to two subscriptions services. Magill's Literary Annual Online contains reviews of significant fiction and nonfiction published from present. It provides coverage for works that are likely to be 3 of particular interest to the general reader, that reflect the publishing trends of a given year, and that will stand up to the test of time. Magill s Medical Guide provides easy-to-use, in-depth information for general readers that helps bridge the gap between medical encyclopedias for professionals and popular selfhelp guides. Its medical information is suitable for student research as well as use by patients and caregivers. The password for both of these sites is iflaccess. There is also a link to 50 ereference books on our resources page. These ebooks cover many categories of literature and reference. Please browse and use as often as you like. Library card required. Just select ebooks on the dropdown menu. Finally, if you are looking for a job, our Job Search Resources tab offers links to information about resumes, cover letters, job hunting, and interview tips.

OverDrive Gets a New Look The next time you go to check out an ebook or audiobook things might look a little different. OverDrive has updated their site to make borrowing easier and faster.

When you sign in with OverDrive or Facebook, the site will remember you, so you won't have to sign in every time you visit.

A new design that's faster and easier to navigate. This redesign includes new availability statuses to show you at a glance whether a title can be placed on hold or borrowed right away.

4 OverDrive Gets a New Look The next time you go to check out an ebook or audiobook things might look a little different. OverDrive has updated their site to make borrowing easier and faster. The new OverDrive comes with enhancements like: More options for signing in. You can sign into new OverDrive library websites with your library card, your OverDrive account, or your Facebook account. When you sign in with OverDrive or Facebook, the site will remember you, so you won't have to sign in every time you visit. You can also use your OverDrive or Facebook account to sign into the OverDrive app, overdrive.com, and other updated library sites if you belong to multiple libraries. A new design that's faster and easier to navigate. This redesign includes new availability statuses to show you at a glance whether a title can be placed on hold or borrowed right away. When browsing through search results or a featured collection, you can filter titles by availability, format, date added, and subject. You can select multiple subjects to further narrow the results. You can also sort your results by relevance, popularity, and more. You can use the media tabs (ebook and audiobook) at the top of the website to see what s new or trending in each category at your library. You can also browse, filter, and sort your library's full ebook and audiobook collections. You can now see your library's entire digital collection on any device. Previously, OverDrive websites hid any titles that didn't work on the device you were using at the time. New OverDrive websites show you everything in your library's collection, with clear messaging about titles that aren't compatible with your current device. This way, you can borrow or place a hold on any title, from anywhere. Under My account, you'll find a new Checkouts page (instead of your old Bookshelf), where you can access all of the titles you currently have checked out. Once you borrow a title, you'll immediately see a button suggesting the best way to get that title on your device (whether that's opening the title right in your browser or adding it to the OverDrive app). Or, you can go to your Checkouts page to see all of your options for that title. Streaming Movies from IndieFlix IndieFlix is a streaming movie service that provides unlimited access to award-winning shorts, feature films, and documentaries. With thousands of films to choose from across more than 50 countries, IndieFlix offers a viewing experience you can't get anywhere else. Film-festival hits View films from major festivals all over the world, including Sundance, Cannes, Tribeca, and more! Find the right film for you Sort by language, genre, or film length with easy-to-use filters Support filmmakers Viewing films on IndieFlix directly supports the filmmakers who made them Available everywhere Watch movies on any Internet-enabled computer, smartphone, or tablet with a Web browser! Check out Our Catalog Did you know you can access your account, renew your books and reserve items from home? All of this is possible from our online catalog.

To log in to your account follow these simple steps: 1. Go to www.indianafreelibrary.org 2. Click on the Catalog button on the right-hand side to go to the Online Public Access Catalog (OPAC) 3.

5 Check out Our Catalog Did you know you can access your account, renew your books and reserve items from home? All of this is possible from our online catalog. Create a Bookbag of useful items you want to refer to later. Click the help icon in the top right corner or call the library at for assistance. Download the Library App The Atriuum-on-the-go app connects you to your library account on your smart phone or tablet. You can see what you have out, renew your books, reserve items and check your fines. To get the app follow these simple instructions: 1. Find and Download the Atriuum-on-the-go app from the App Store (Apple) or the Play Store (Android) 2. Tap Connect to a library 3. Enter the information in the required fields or scan the QR code: Server: indianafreelibrary.org Port: 81 Library: ifl 4. Tap Search Library Catalog to get to the catalog. 5. Type a title, author or keyword to search How to Renew Your Items 1. Log in to your account 2. Click Items Out 3. Check the box next to each item you want to renew 4. Click on the Renew button You may renew items 2 times if they are not on reserve and your total fines are not over $2.00. Your account shows how many times you ve renewed each item. How to Reserve an Item 1 Log in to your account 2 Search for the item you want 3 If it is checked out, click the title to go to the item record 4 Click the Reserve button on the right side On the Reserves tab In My Items you ll see that the item is on reserve for you and where you are in line for the item. You can remove the reserve by checking the box next to the title and clicking the Cancel button. Click My Items to log in and see what you have out, due dates, fines and more! POWER Library is the online portal to all that Pennsylvania libraries offer. This is the place to find trustworthy answers to questions about healthcare, consumer purchases, personal finances, and much more. Enjoy free 24/7 access to newspapers, magazines, journals, historical documents and photos, online databases, and ebooks. Research a subject. Learn about your family history. Repair your car. POWER Library is a service of the Office of Commonwealth Libraries, Pennsylvania Department of Education, and is hosted by HSLC. Find It Anywhere in PA! Libraries across Pennsylvania have collaborated to create a shared catalog of their collections. PA libraries also lend materials to other libraries. You can access this catalog through our Power Library link, just click Find books, movies, and more in a PA library to begin your search. You can search by keyword, title, author, subject, or ISBN. The new system is much like our OPAC, with pictures of the items as well as their descriptions. You have the option of refining your search by format, date, publisher, etc. to narrow your results. Clicking on the item will also show you more information about it as well as where you can find it. If the item you are looking for is located at a library that is not close to you, contact us to ask about an interlibrary loan. Because libraries acquire new materials daily, listings are updated on a regular basis. If you do not find what you are looking for this time, check back again at a later time. Remember you can always ask one of our librarians for assistance. Check Out the New STEM-focused ebook Titles The State Library recently purchased nearly 400 titles focused on STEM subjects and they are now available in the POWER Library e-resource, ebooks on EBSCOhost. Multiple 6 copies of each title were purchased, which greatly enhances access. Over 12,800 ebook titles are now available for viewing online and many are available for downloading on portable devices such as the Barnes & Noble NOOK, the ipad, and Kindle Fire. Check out the list of newly added titles! To access the ebooks, go to the POWER Library and select ebooks on EBSCOhost.

You can sign up for weekly and monthly s alerting you to new books, highlighted titles, and spotlight authors. Just click the Select Reads Tab on our website. Monthly Newsletter: Highlights popular titles in each category. Sign up for one or more categories of titles that you are interested in. Once a month you will receive an showing those top new titles in your favorite categories. New Title: Highlights top 10 brand new titles in each category arriving in the library over the past 30 days. Sign up for one or more categories of titles that you are interested in. Once a month you will receive an showing those top new titles in your favorite categories. Author Spotlight: These newsletters contain author information and their latest books. Sign up for one or more categories of Authors that you are interested in. Once a month you will receive an showing 2 Authors "in the Spotlight" in your favorite categories. My Select Reads: Think of My Select Reads as your personal librarian alerting you to new titles on subjects you ve selected for yourself. Choose topics you re interested in, enter your address and you ll get a weekly bulletin with book recommendations generated specifically for you it s that simple! Book Lists: You will also be able to browse lists created by our librarians to highlight subjects, award lists, Staff Picks and more. For more information ask one of our librarians! Help the Library by Donating to the IFL s Wish List The Library Wish List program is an opportunity to support the library by adding specific, highneed items to the collection in one of two ways: by purchasing them directly from an online bookseller (Amazon, or Barnes and Noble) or by donating used items found on the Wish List. Wish List items are duplicate items made necessary by loss of or damage to the original, or by high patron demand. The Wish Lists will be updated regularly, so please check back often! New Items If you would like to donate a new copy of a specific item you can purchase it directly from our 7 Amazon or Barnes and Noble Wish Lists. The Library will insert a plate in the inside cover acknowledging your donation. Note: When sending an item through Amazon, please note your name and contact information in the "gift note" so that we can give you proper credit for your donation. If you have any problems doing this, or have donated recently without doing this, please the library (reference@indianafreelibrary.or g) so that we can include your name in the item's bookplate.
