6 Coming next Fall Circulating citizen science kits will allow you to participate in regional and national research studies. What is citizen science? It s public participation in scientific research, often in collaboration with scientists, in order to increase scientific knowledge and make our world a better place. Arizona State University is partnering with local public libraries to provide toolkits of citizen science resources for library customers to conduct scientific research. Kits and projects are still being developed but this will be a fun way for people of all ages to learn about and engage with scientific research.

17 Gardening Programs at the library In the winter and spring the library will offer backyard composting and backyard gardening from Keep Phoenix Beautiful. 18 Winter Reading Program for Adults! - Read to your own Beat! - Each book is 10 points. The goal is to reach 100 points. - Weekly prize drawings for tote bags, books, mugs, and more - Grand prize drawing for membership for 2 people to the MIM Museum - Special programs include the Beatles: From Liverpool to Abby Road, Chef Larry passport on a plate cooking demonstration and sampling program, and the Era of the Big Bands program. Registration is required for programs. - The program celebrates reading, promotes adult literacy, and is lots of fun!

21 Volunteers at the Library The Southeast Regional Library is grateful to our wonderful volunteers who provide many hours of dedicated service to our library. What do our volunteers do? - Shelve library holds for our customers - Sort books onto carts in shelf order so that library staff can reshelve items - Shelve our media, including DVDs, Blu-Rays, and music Cds - Retrieve items from our collection to fulfill customer holds - Advocate for libraries within our community How do I become a library volunteer? Potential volunteers can fill out an application by visiting our website at Click on the volunteer tab, fill out the information requested and click submit. The volunteer coordinator will then respond to your application and let you know when the next orientation for volunteers will be held.

22 Friends of the SERL Library The Friends of the Southeast Regional Library is an active nonprofit volunteer community group that supports the two Gilbert public libraries, promotes literacy for adults and children, and expands the presence of the libraries for the benefit of the community. We also promote and encourage volunteering. Tax deductible memberships are available provides additional revenue and start at $15 for individuals. The Friends book store is open from 10-4 Monday through Saturday.
