1 Arts and Letters Night Packet For Franklin West Students Arts and Letters Night is Thursday, April 18th from 6:00 7:30 pm in the multipurpose room. PLEASE READ this information packet for students and parents that describes Arts and Letters Night. It discusses all of the Franklin West contests in which students may choose to participate. Also included are important dates, deadlines, and evaluation guidelines for each contest. Students are welcome to participate in all areas of competition. Parents being familiar with this information will save time and student disappointment as disqualification will result if rules are not followed. Arts and Letters Night is a night to showcase the work and successes of our Franklin West Students. Students who have been honored for other contests such as the Spelling Bee, Geography Bee, writing contests, and poster contests sponsored by outside groups will also be highlighted during this night. The winners of the Franklin West contests will be announced and presented with their awards on this evening. There are four contests in which the students may participate. Please read the grade limitations very carefully. Each entry must be accompanied by the correct entry form (attached to the end of this packet) and signed by (1) the participant, (2)the teacher, and (3)a parent or guardian. Copies of these poems can be made in the office prior to the contest entry due date. Awards will be presented to the 1 st, 2 nd and 3 rd place winners at each grade level. Recitations will be judged on the basis of how well the child reflects the message of the poem as well as the accuracy in delivering the poem. The recitation time must not exceed 3 minutes. First place winners of the poetry recitation contest will be requested to recite their poem on stage during the Arts and Letters Night in April. All contestants will have their poetry recitation video recorded during judging in the event that additional judging is necessary.
