6 By Adriela A. Parsing Timothy Ferriss's ground-breaking book, The 4-Hour Workweek, is no easy task, but this quick guide seems to do it effortlessly. The guide gives a brief overview of the author and the book's background, and then immediately launches into a summary of the book itself. As with other 30 Minute books, each chapter starts with a summary and concludes with bulleted key points, readdressing the major ideas the section covered. In this guide particularly, this is useful because so much information is deconstructed. I got a little bogged down in the third section, when Ferriss's idea of automation and outsourcing is explained. But by reading through the section summary ahead of time, and then reading the key points afterward, the concepts made much more sense to me. The author also does an excellent job of integrating the original book's vocabulary. These words are usually bolded or italicized, flagging them as important. This is helpful not only for a close reading of this summarization guide, but also for those who wish to read Ferriss's book itself, by prepping them for the lexicon Ferriss employs. If you are unfamiliar with the multi-millionaire, entrepreneur, and motivational speaker's theories, the thirty minute version of the Ferriss' book is the perfect opportunity to become a fan. Challenging readers to lay aside the conventional thought that retirement is a reason to keep putting in those forty-plus hour work weeks, Ferriss asks us to realize that it's not about becoming a millionaire, it's all about finding ways to maximize life's most valuable commodity: time.
