1 Cultural Geography European Country Report Requirements for the Report 1. At least 3 pages (typed, double spaced, Times New Roman, 12 pitch font) 2. At least 3 reliable resources (at least one of these resources must be a book from the library). Books to use: individual books about your country, books about regions of the world that contain your country, books about certain subjects that contain specific information about your country (ex: Religions of the World or The History of Europe, etc.) and Tourism books. 3. There should be a bibliography page. Note: since students haven t studied footnotes in their Composition class, they will not be required to footnote this report. A bibliography page is all that they need. 4. There should be a cover sheet with the name of your country centered at the top. Your name, date, and campus and section should be centered toward the bottom. (Note: The title page and bibliography page is not one of the 3 required pages.) 5. Submit your report to Grammarly and make corrections. Make corrections until you have a score of at least 90. Print out your score and put it behind the bibliography page. Your paper should discuss your assigned country in relation to the five themes of geography (movement, region, location, interaction and place). Include the history of the country, the culture and where applicable explain how the physical features of the country impact the people, their jobs/ industries. Your research paper is informative in nature and should be written in 3rd person. Be sure to include the information in Mr. Lip as it relates to your country. Movement: Explain the history of the people of your country, as well as, their use of infrastructure: transportation, media, etc. Region: Identify the region by boundaries, language and /or function. Put your name on the back of the board. 2. The name of your country should be prominently displayed on the board. 3. Colors and design should be as accurate as possible. Be able to explain what the colors mean. 5. Photos, graphs, charts and drawings depicting life in your country Here are some suggestions for things to put on your board for #5 (you don t have to use all of these). Climate Natural Resources Food Transportation Native Animals Architecture National Landmarks Major Industries National Holidays/Celebrations Popular Sports National Dance/Music Native Plants Currency Famous People from your country Please make sure that your board is neat and that the photos, graphs, etc. are clearly labeled! 4 Requirements for the Presentation Cultural Geography European Country Presentation 1. For your presentation, use information from your report, anything you bring in about your country (optional) and your board to inform us about life in your country. 2. Make notes for your presentation on 3x5 or 5x8 cards. I will not look at these; they are to help you know what to say. The notes should be in order of the things you are telling us. You will need to write out facts to tell us unless they are on the board. 3. You will need to speak for 3-5 minutes. Rehearse at home to make sure you have enough to say but please do not go over the time limit. Obviously, you won t be able to tell us everything that was in your report; just give us the most important facts. 4. Be sure to do the following during your presentation. Introduce your country. Show us where it is on a globe or map of the world (Mrs. Holland will bring one) and explain your country s location in relation to bordering countries, the ocean, mountains, etc. Name the capital and show us where it is on your hand drawn map Refer to your hand drawn map to tell us about important places or features.
