3 Libr ary News Check out Tutor.com, the library s new online learning resource Trouble writing that essay for school? Math leaving you feeling clueless? Haven t written a resume in years? The St. Clair Shores Public Library can help! Tutor.com is the latest addition to our online offerings. You can access Tutor.com by going to the library s website at Hover your pointer over Online Resources and then click on Online Databases. An alphabetical listing of all our databases will appear. Scroll down to T for Tutor.com. You will need your St. Clair Shores Library card number and your PIN to create an account. Don t know your PIN? Come into the library with your library card and a staff member can look up your PIN for you. Once you have created your account, there is a tutorial video you can watch or you can jump into the many resources offered. Tutor.com offers 40 subjects for all ages. You can upload a resume or writing assignment in their overnight drop off box. A tutor will review the paper and send you an assessment of the writing along with suggestions and corrections. There are several assessment tests that can be taken and then they are graded with answers explained. If further information is needed, there is a skill resources area with additional study aids. You can select the Get a Tutor tab to speak to a live tutor from 4:00 PM - 11:00 PM daily. Select your topic, subject and grade level. Input your question (even attach a file) and then click on the Get Tutor button. Your live chat with a tutor specializing in that subject will begin. Documents and pictures can be uploaded to assist with the question. Sessions are saved to Your Locker in your account. Sessions can be printed, ed, or simply left in your locker if you need to come back to refresh your memory. If you like a particular tutor, you can tag them as a favorite in your account, allowing you the ability to see when that particular tutor is available online. All tutors undergo an extensive background check, repeated annually. All work is completed in the recorded classroom and monitored by management staff at Tutor.com. We are very excited to offer this wonderful resource for our patrons. If you have any questions, stop into the library or give us a call for assistance. Changes to Overdrive Reading History In October, OverDrive introduced a History page that will automatically display titles a user has borrowed. Each time a title is borrowed, it is added to the user's history. You can locate History under My Account. At launch, a user will see an empty history until they borrow a title, or manually add it. To add a title, select the three vertical dots (more options menu) from a search results page, then Add to history. Titles can be manually added through the search results page or from the title details page. A user can choose to hide their history from the Settings page. If the user opts to display their history again at a later date, they will only see titles added from that point forward. Each title on your History page lists: Date of the loan or the date added Offers a sample to read Details of the title Remove from History option You May Also Like suggestions If you have any rated titles, you can add all of them to your history using the Add Rated Titles button. If a rated title is already on your history, it won't be added again. To remove a title, go to your History page, click on the three vertical dots, then Remove from history. To turn off the history option in your library's digital collection, click or tap My Account, then select Settings. Under "General," deselect History. Your setting will be saved automatically. Titles you borrow won't be added to your history while it's hidden. If you turn on the feature in the future, you ll only see titles borrowed from that day forward. Holds Effective immediately, the number of holds allowed per patron will now be seven instead of ten. Due to the high demand of our downloadable items, the Suburban Library Cooperative OverDrive group has decided to adjust the limit to seven holds per account. This will allow more patrons access to our titles, with less hold wait times. Patrons who currently have more than seven holds will not lose those holds. However, no more holds will be allowed till the number of holds on the account falls below seven.
