Guide aux évaluations BI 2014 Mme Lewis

Les oraux interactifs Internally assessed, 10% weight of final score Take place throughout the year Three are officially noted by teacher, and the highest note is chosen by teacher and submitted to IB along with a description of the oral assessment. No recording is submitted to IB.

L orale individuel Internally assessed, 20% weight of final score Will take place Feb 10th-14th Student will be given choice of two previously unseen photos, each with title/caption, based on one of the IB options: cultural diversity, customs and traditions, health, leisure, science and technology.

L orale individuel Student will have 15 minutes to reflect and prepare a notecard with up to 10 bullet points. Student will describe the scene and situation, and offer their interpretation of it, for 3-4 minutes. Teacher will ask questions, and student will respond, for 5-6 minutes. Teacher will grade and submit recorded orals; IB will evaluate teacher s grading accuracy via one or two random selections.

Le travail écrit - SL Externally assessed, 20% weight of final score Will take place March 3rd-7th over a period of 3-5 hours (recommended) Students will be presented with three media resources of words each (articles, interviews, blogs), selected by the teacher, based on one specific topic (e.g., le mariage gay) drawn from the core: communications and media, social relationships, global issues.

Le travail écrit - SL After reviewing three sources, student will decide upon a text purpose (e.g., to persuade the reader to take a certain view of the topic) and a text type (e.g., a series of s, a newspaper article, a journal entry, a brochure), and see the teacher to have this choice approved.

Le travail écrit - SL Student will then create their text using information from all three sources words, plus a word rationale explaining their choice of text purpose and text type, and how their purpose was fulfilled. Printed dictionaries and verb conjugation tables, list of text types and their characteristics (which Mme Lewis will provide): allowed

Le travail écrit - SL The goal, according to IB: demonstrate understanding of the topic, organize the info from the sources in a manner appropriate to the text type, present the info without copying, and use appropriate language.

Le travail écrit - HL Externally assessed; 20% weight of final score. Will take place March 3rd-7th over a period of 3-5 hours (recommended). Student will write a creative piece of text based on any work of literature read in BI 4/5.

Le travail écrit - HL words plus a word rationale that states your aim and how you plan to achieve it. You may choose from the same list of text types as SL (journal entry, letter, etc.), plus some others. Some possibilities of topic suggested by IB: a new ending or an epilogue to a story, an interview with a character, a journal entry by one of the characters.

Le travail écrit - HL You may use a printed dictionary and reference material, including an unmarked copy of the text you are basing your work upon. You must include a bibliography. This may be prepared ahead of time.

Le travail écrit: 2015 changes SL and HL: Le travail écrit will be wordprocessed, completed independently by student, and submitted electronically. The rationale word count will be increased. SL: Students will select their own resources. HL: You may base your creative writing off of one or two works of literature (e.g. characters from different works could have a shared correspondance)

Paper 1 and Paper 2 Externally assessed, 25% weight each (50% total). Will take place May 21st over a period of 3 hours (1.5 hours each). Paper 1: reading texts and answering questions, based on core topics of communications and media, social relationships, and global issues.

Paper 1 and Paper 2 Paper 1: four texts (SL) or five texts (HL), arranged from simplest to most complex, with a set of questions for each. Texts could be interviews, blogs, articles, letters, etc. Questions could be matching, true/false, fill-in-theblank, short answer, identifying references (e.g. pronouns), etc. Similar format to French B Course Companion.

Paper 1 and Paper 2 Paper 2: students will choose one of five written task prompts, based on the options: cultural diversity, customs and traditions, health, leisure, science and technology. Each prompt will require its response in a specific format (i.e. blog/letter/journal/etc).

Paper 1 and Paper 2 Paper 2: HL will have an additional task: reading a stimulus text based on the core topics, and responding in any manner you choose. There is no prescribed answer; this is meant to be an example of your writing and thinking skills words.

Text Type Examples Used for le travail écrit SL and Paper 2. An editorial is an expression of the (impersonal) opinion of the editor or editorial team of a newspaper or magazine about a recent event or current issue. An interview is a dialogue in question-and-answer style. It may include a brief introduction to the interviewee, setting or circumstances of the interview. A journalistic review is a review of a book, film, television or radio programme that is suitable for inclusion in a newspaper or magazine. It is based on the author s experience and is subjective.

A magazine article is a non-fictional text written to inform readers about a particular subject or issue in some detail. An opinion column is the part of a newspaper or journal devoted to the expression of journalists or readers opinions. A pastiche is the imitation of the style and form of an original published work. A brochure/ leaflet/pamphlet provides descriptive information to inform, sell or raise awareness about a certain issue. A short story or narration (for the written assignment at HL) may be a chapter or section of a text written by the student, or an additional chapter or alternative ending to an existing novel or novella. A play (for the written assignment at HL) may be a short play or scene written by the student, or an additional scene(s) to an existing play.
