Biographical Sketch Doug Hansen has been a Fresno-based artist and illustrator for over thirty years. Born in Fresno, CA in 1952, he is the eldest of six children in an artistic family. Doug received his BA in Art from California State University, Fresno, in He earned his Masters Degree in Art at California State University, Fresno, in 2002 and was selected as the Graduate Dean s Medalist in the College of Arts and Humanities. Doug is a professor in the Department of Art and Design at California State University, Fresno. He partnered with Mas Matsumoto to illustrate a monthly article in the Fresno Bee, which led to the publication of a book, illustrated by Doug, called Letters to the Valley and a second illustrated book by Matsumoto and Hansen titled Heirlooms: Letter from a Peach Farmer. He is also known locally for his 23 years of illustration work at the Fresno Bee, including a weekly series of pen and ink drawings of Valley landmarks called Fresno Sketchbook, which were published as books in 1991 and In spring 2009, Heyday published Mother Goose in California, a children s ABC book created and illustrated by Hansen. Aesop in California, also written and illustrated by Hansen, was published in A third book, California, the Magic Island, debuted in Sources Biography sketch content is from biography page in Mother Goose in California and from his biography page on the Art & Design Department at Fresno State. Related Collection In addition to these papers, Doug Hansen also donated a drawing of Mother Goose, which hangs in the conference room of the Arne Nixon Center, along with 2 copies of Mother Goose in California.
