It is a little surprising that this episode has not been previously written up thoroughly. One would almost say that nothing new can be written about Lincoln, but perhaps that will never be true. We hope that you may want to inscribe and present a copy to the Maine Author Collection. This is a permanent exhibit collection of books written by Maine people, and also books about the state. The inscriptions are fascinatingpen-and-ink sketches, bits of verse, tributes to the state and the whole collection distinctive. It attracts students and visitors the year round, and we also gather biographical and critical information to make our file on Maine writers and books as complete as possible. This collection, of course, is quite apart from the general lending section of the library, for which we buy the books. The Maine Author Collection has increased to its size and value chiefly through the interest and generosity of our authors, and we are truly grateful. Y News Bureau May 19,196k Mrs. F.W.Jacob Maine State Library Augusta, Maine Dear Mrs. Jacobs I am glad that you liked "Thirteen Desperate Days," and I am very proud to have it included in the Maine Author Collection. It appears to be enjoying a good sale, and the reviews in general have been very complimentary. I am enclosing a copy of a resume that I prepared recently. THis will sjow that I was born in Bridgton on Pairl 25, What it does not show is that I graduated from Bridgton High School in For several years I worked as a feature writer on the late Boston P 0st, and I went to Maine fairly frequently to do feature stories. I became acquainted with Horace Hildred, who was governor} with the now Senator Muskie, with Everett Greaton in the Maine Development Office, and many others. In fact, at that time I was writing more feature stories about Maine than anyone else not even excluding newspapermen enployed by Maine papers#
