21 Researchers Resources at Calder Library PubMed/MyNCBI can be used for planning NIH Open Access Policy SciVal Experts RefWorks/Write-N-Cite QUOSA Information Manager Scopus PubMed contains citations to articles that report on research results. By keeping up to date with the published literature you will find topics for your own research projects. My NCBI is an personal account that allows you to save records and searches, and create alerts to new publications on your topics of interest.

Requires manuscript submission to PubMed Central (PMC) within 12 months of publication (if the journal manuscript is peer-reviewed and arises from any direct funding from an NIH grant active in FY 2008+) PubMed Central is an archive of full-text biomedical journal papers available online without a fee When applying for new grants, include PMC ID numbers or NIH manuscript submission reference numbers for articles accepted for publication; otherwise NIH will delay processing of awards.

49 Method A: Publish in a journal that deposits all final published articles in PubMed Central (PMC) without author involvement. List of Journals

50 Method B: Make arrangements to have the publisher deposit a specific final published article in PubMed Central. Some publishers will deposit an individual final published article in PubMed Central upon author request, and generally for a fee.

51 Method C: Deposit the final peer-reviewed manuscript in PubMed Central yourself via the NIH Manuscript Submission System (NIHMS).

52 Method D: Complete the submission process for a final peer-reviewed manuscript that the publisher has deposited in the NIH Manuscript Submission System (NIHMS).

It can help you efficiently store, organize, and share citations and easily format them for papers and bibliographies.

66 RefWorks Agenda In today s session you will learn to: Create a RefWorks account and access it from on- and off-campus Import citations into RefWorks using PubMed Import citations into RefWorks using Google Scholar Organize your citations and share them with colleagues at UMiami and beyond Use RefWorks to easily create and format bibliographies Use Write-N-Cite to easily create in-text citations

67 RefWorks - Start Screen Now you are brought to the RefWorks start screen. You are ready to use RefWorks.

68 Exporting Google Scholar Citations If not already in RefWorks log into RefWorks and open a new window for Google Scholar at scholar.google.com Perform your search

69 Select the desired article by clicking on Cite

74 1. Select from your results the articles you wish to import 2. Select Citation manager from the Send to drop down menu 3. Click Create File

76 In the RefWorks window, select Import from the References drop down menus

78 Select Text File Select the desired file, then click open

80 You should be notified that Import was completed. Click View Last Imported Folder

81 Citations automatically go into Last Imported and selected folder (in this case - Diabetes folder). If (0) displayed for Diabetes folder, refresh the browser.

83 Bibliographies RefWorks will allow you to create bibliographies formatted in a specific style There are two ways to do this: Write-N-Cite (WNC) add-on for MS Word One line/cite view

84 Write-n-Cite Write-n-Cite Word add-in that allows you to insert citations as you write a paper Formats citations and creates a bibliography using more than 500 styles (e.g., APA, MLA, Chicago)

85 To download Write-N-Cite click on the Tools from the Tool bar and select Write-N-Cite

86 Select the appropriate version of Write-N- Cite for Windows or Mac

87 Write-N-Cite: Inserting Citations RefWorks tab added to MS Word

88 Select desired citation style from the drop down menu

89 2. Click Insert Citation, and then Insert New (already used citations will appear 1. Place the cursor where you would like to input a citation

90 Note: Word is still open Write-n-Cite opens as a pop-up window All your folders are displayed

91 Select the folder where your citation resides; all citations within that folder will populate the citation

92 Select the citation Preview of the citation in the selected style Edit your citation here if necessary and click OK to insert the citation

93 Notice the new citation. Citations can be entered as you type! There is no need to place markers and insert later.

94 When finished writing and ready to add a Bibliography, click Bibliography Options and Insert Bibliography

95 The Bibliography is automatically added to the bottom of the paper

96 If you need to change the style of the Bibliography, click the drop down menu and select your desired style. If the style is not listed, click Select Other Style

99 Researchers Resources at Calder Library NIH Open Access Policy PubMed/MyNCBI SciVal Experts RefWorks/Write-N-Cite QUOSA Information Manager Scopus QUOSA Information Manager is a downloadable tool that helps researchers manage and mine full text articles: Retrieve with one click, one to hundreds of fulltext articles from PubMed, Ovid or Google Scholar, then organize and effectively search the full text

100 Getting QUOSA First you must download QUOSA from the Library homepage: All articles are downloaded to that computer. You can then read and analyze all those articles anywhere you take your computer no internet connection required.
