1 Ebook Purchasing Instructions for School Devices Revised 8/25/2015 Ebook Lookup: When looking up Ebooks on the Barnes & Noble website to get pricing and ISBN information, be sure to type in ebook in the search bar. If you search for a book without doing adding the word ebook it will possibly give you another book format instead of an ebook. Every different format has a different ISBN. So if an order for Ebooks is submitted with the incorrect ISBN s then the order will be returned to be corrected before being resubmitted. To know the difference when you search here is an example of a book in regular vs ebook format. Search for Mockingjay with nothing added. You will notice that at the bottom left of the picture there are pictures of what the book looks like. If you notice below the title it shows numerous designations; Hardcover, Marketplace, Nook book. Marketplace is third party resellers. Nook Book (ebook) may be written on the screen, but this particular book listing is for the first format shown, Hardcover. So if you scroll midway down to get the ISBN, it will give you the ISBN for the Hardcover only. Here is a search for the same book in ebook format. Notice to the bottom left of the book photo in the ebook version it has a tag that says NookBook, and the first format listed

2 under the title says Nook book as well. This is how you can make sure you get the correct number. When you scroll further down the screen it will show you Product Details this is where you find the ISBN for the ebook. It says ISBN-13. You only need the number after this part. In this case,

3 Compatible Devices: When you are looking at the Nookbook screen for an ebook you want, if you are unsure whether it is compatible for your device, click on available on nookbook devices and apps button (a little blue question mark beside the words) as shown in this picture and it will list all compatible devices. When you click on the question mark a popup box will appear with the list of compatible devices. Most ebooks are compatible between devices. This example shows a kids book designed specifically for color devices since it has a read aloud function that will read the book to them. Because of this extra feature this book is not available on a Simple Touch. This is rare, but if you ever see it is a kid s book or a book that is primarily pictures please double check this tab to ensure it works for your device. (This is usually only necessary for Simple Touches since they are only black and white screens). If you are ordering a standard teen or fiction book you likely don t need to check this as those are the same across all devices. Here is an example of an ebook that works for a Simple Touch. Simple Touch is listed simply as Nook on the popup box. Nook Color, Nook HD, etc are listed as shown above.

4 Ebook Order Form: The next item is the Ebook order form. When ordering books you will simply put the before mentioned items into the proper place. The Group name which has been set ahead of time, for example: Krause Class 1, or 053 Creative Writing 2, etc. This will be listed on the far right. So if your class has 12 Nooks in it all under the Group Krause Class 1, the excel sheet should calculate the totals as shown. As usual, there is no Tax necessary. So you only have to list the title once and we will know to load on only one device. If you want a book loaded onto only 1 device in the class, write the individual device and serial number instead, which can be found by hitting the Menu button, which is below the screen and looks like an upside down U. Then hit Settings and then Device Information.

5 Lastly, when putting in the ISBN you may have to type it in. For some reason some excel programs will reformat a copied item and turn it into a formula or some such will appear. Just delete and type it normally. It might let you paste it in if you first type a letter and then hit paste. For example: g You can always delete the letter after you pasted it.
