Journal s impact factor was in the year LITERATURE REVIEW Several scientometric studies have been undertaken by various researchers across the globe to understand the publication distribution pattern of a particular journal. Nageswaro Rao [1] et al. studied Bibliometric analysis of the Journal of Propulsion and Power out of 4047 articles during 1985 to 201 found that highest numbers of 194 articles were published in 1992 and lowest numbers of 81 articles were published in Authorship pattern showed that 10 were produced by two authors and 1098 by three authors. It is found that 1205 different were involved in publication of articles. Purdue University contributed highest number of 16 articles. Country wise collaborative research productivity of articles reveals that maximum numbers of 760 articles were produced in one country. Fleeter, S from Purdue University, USA has authored and co authored highest number of 54 articles. A scientometric analysis of 657 articles published in Indian Journal of Radio and Space Physics has done by J K Singh [2] during by the year 2006 to In his study he showed that most of the papers (9.46%) were contributed jointly where as 6.54% papers were contributed by single authors. Institutions wise contributions observed that Council of Scientific and Industrial Research topped with 54 articles followed by IIT with 50 articles. The most prolific author was Kumar, R who topped with 21 articles followed by Kumar, A with 20 articles. Overall average citation per paper was 1.87 whereas overall mean page length of all the paper was 5.7. Kulkarni [] et al. carried out a bibliometric analysis on Indian Journal of Pharmaceutical Education Research from 1996 to The study found that journals are the predominant citation source followed by books and majority of the scientists

2 R. Santha kumar VSRDIJLIS, Vol. I (I) December 2015 / 22 preferred to publish research papers in multi authorship and there is considerable time lag in publication of articles from the date of papers. Kamal Lochan Jena [4] studied the bibliometric analysis of the journal Indian Journal of Fibre and Textile Research, The study trend of publications such as the year wise distribution of articles, bibliographical distribution of citations, authorship pattern, citation pattern, average length of articles, number of tables and figures used, geographical distribution authors and subject analysis have been analysed. Mamdapur [5] et al. carried out a bibliometric study of the Journal Baltic Astronomy from 2000 to In their study, distribution of contributions, authorship pattern of contributions, distributions references, analysis of length of papers have been analysed. The study also found that the degree of collaboration for the period was 0.89, authors from USA have contributed maximum number of papers compared to other countries and India stood 21 st in the ranked list. Dixit S and Katare [6] highlights the research trend of cotton scientists by studying the articles published in the Journal of the Indian Society for Cotton Improvement for the period Patterns related to authorship, bibliographic forms, citations, contributing institutions and subjects were analysed. Nattar [7], analysed the Indian Journal of Physics published during , which revealed that highest number of papers written by co-authors and the contributions of the journal from India are slightly more than those from the other countries. The growth and popularity of this journal is found to show an upward trend. Authorship pattern observed that two authored articles were 275, followed by 221 three authored articles and 16 four authored articles etc. Out of 1481 citations, 8851 were journals and 0 were books. Geographical distribution observed that 91.64% of contributions were India, 1.5% contributions were from Bangladesh, etc. Singh, J K [8] studied on Indian Journal of Pure and Applied Physics out of 657 articles during 2006 to 2010 revealed that highest numbers of 144 articles were published in 2007 and lowest of 11 were published in The study observed that 9.46 % articles were coauthored and 6.54 % were single authored publications. Institutions wise contributions observed that CSIR topped with 54 articles followed by IIT with 50 articles. The most prolific author was R. Kumar who topped with 21 articles followed by A. Kumar with 20 articles. Anil kumar [9] et.al, analysed the Pramana Journal of Physics published during the year , it is found that there is an upward trend in number of collaborated papers. Authors from University of Delhi, Delhi; Bhabha Atomic Research Centre, Mumbai, India; Physical Research Laboratory, Ahmadabad, India; Institute of Physics, Bhubaneswar, India; Indian Institute of Science, Bangalore, India; Tata Institute of Fundamental Research, Mumbai, India etc. contributed most number of articles. One fourth of the total articles published in Pramana are from outside India, the host country of the journal and the numbers of articles submitting from other countries are increased. The average number of references per article is OBJECTIVES OF STUDY The present study has been undertaken with the objective of analyzing the following aspects: Publication output Authorship pattern Country wise distribution of articles Country wise collaborative research productivity Highly prolific authors Highly productive institutes 4. METHODOLOGY The bibliographic records for the analysis are limited to the articles of Indian Journal of Radio and Space Physics published during was retrieved from its home website. A total number of 60 issues from 10 volumes starting from 2005 to 2014 were analysed by recording bibliographic data. All the required data such as number of articles, number of authors contributions in each volume, affiliations of the authors and their geographical locations both at national and international levels as well as the number of citations and pages were recorded for making observations. Santha kumar VSRDIJLIS, Vol. I (I) December 2015 / 2 Year wise publication output and citations Articles Citations Pages Fig. 1: Year wise Publication Output and Citations Table 1 presents the year wise distribution of articles, average number of articles per volume, number of citations and average number of citations per articles. A total of 497 articles were published during the study period 2005 to 2014.These articles had 11,4 citations with total pages of 724. The highest numbers of articles (62) were in 2007, and these articles have received the 1479 citations. Regarding the lowest numbers of articles was in 2014 and these articles have received the 924 citations. This is because the issue no 4 & 5 merged in to one issue in this year. The highest numbers of citations (1605) were received in The average number of articles were published per issue was 8. and the number of citations per articles during the period was The highest number of average citations per article (0.86) was in A fluctuation trend of publications was observed in this study. The total pages of the articles and the average length of the articles are shown in the table 1. The table shows that the average length of articles is Further, it has been observed that the average length of the articles varied from a minimum of 6.22 pages to a maximum of 9.61 pages. 4 R. Santha kumar VSRDIJLIS, Vol. I (I) December 2015 / 24 Authorship Pattern of Publications Single Two Multi Mega Fig. 2: Authorship Pattern of Publications Table 2 shows authorship pattern of the articles published during the period 2005 to Out of 497 articles, the maximum number of articles 206 (41.4%) have been contributed by multi authors (&4). This is followed by two authors with 122 articles (24.5%) and 106 (21.%) articles were produced by mega authors (more than 4 authors). It is observed that 1714 authors have contributed 497 articles with an average of 0.29 articles per author. Table 4 also shows that out of 497 articles single author contributed 6 articles (12.7 %) while the rest 44 articles (87. %) contributed by joint authors. It is clear from the above analysiss that percentage of single authored articles is less than that of joint authored articles. This is because the journal is multidisciplinary which involves several researchers from different disciplines. For calculating the co-authorship index and collaboration coefficient for authors, countries have been replaced by publication year. For this study, the authors have been classified into publication year vz Single, Two, Multi and Mega authors and the results of Co-authorship index and collaboration coefficient have been presented in the Table 2. It reveals that the result of co authorship index and it is observed that the value of CAI for increasing and decreasing trend in the ten year periods. This implies that the collaborative pattern in Indian journal of radio and space physics journal is mainly characterized by co-authored papers not by single authored papers. The average value of collaboration coefficient for Indian journal of radio and space physics journal is The highest value of collaboration coefficient is 0.61 in 201 and lowest 0.49 in However, the value of collaboration coefficient is showing increasing and decreasing trend in the ten year periods.
