1 Number 82 June August 2010 Info-Bulles A Word from the Executive Director SYMPHONY 2295, rue Saint-Louis Gatineau (Québec) J8T 5L8 Tel : Fax : Important Reminder For the smooth running of the Committee, it s ESSENTIAL that all its members are kept informed of all information received. Don t forget to pass this INFO-BULLES Newsletter to ALL members of the Library Committee. INFO-BULLES ISSN Dépôt légal électronique : Bibliothèque nationale du Canada Monday June 7 th, at the opening of our workstations, all partners of the Réseau BIBLIO de l Outaouais will be in tune and we will all take part in a melodious Symphony. We would like to remind you that, between June 7 th and July 10 th, 2010 (the busiest time regarding document loans), additional phone support offered by the CRSBPO will be available some weekdays from 4:30 pm to 8:30 pm and on Saturdays from 9 am to 4 pm.. Starting June 7 th, access to the test database will not be available anymore. However, you will have access to the real database. Like for the test database, you will have to identify yourself with the user numbers and passwords attributed to you during the Symphony training session. Remember that between 10 pm and 2 am, Symphony will be unavailable due to automatic daily backups. You will then have to plan other tasks during this period. THE RÉSEAU BIBLIO DE L OUTAOUAIS IS AWARDED AN ADDITIONAL SUBSIDY OF $ TO AQUIRE DOCUMENTS Last April 8 th, the minister of the Culture, des Communications et de la Condition féminine du Québec, Mrs. Christine St-Pierre, awarded the amount of $ to the eleven regional BIBLIO networks of Quebec. These funds will be used to maintain the basic collections of the CRSBPs. As for the CRSBPO, this sum represents more than $. Due to the fact that this financial aid arrives several months after the beginning of the year 2010, the purchases will be done during the CRSBPO s fiscal year. This financial help will allow the purchase of documents for the regional collection. These documents will then be distributed to the affiliated libraries via the biannual rotations and thus, loaned to the users of these libraries.
2 WHEN PURCHASING DOCUMENTS, MAKE SURE TO COMPLY WITH BILL 51 Page 2 We would like to remind you that as an institutional buyer, your municipality (and thus your library) is subject to the Loi sur le développement des entreprises québécoises dans le domaine du livre, commonly called Bill 51. Voted in 1981, this bill ensures territorial and economic access to books by the implementation of a network of libraries throughout all of Quebec regions. In return, there are obligations imposed to the bookseller who holds an agreement (stocks quality and diversity, personalized services, etc.). There is also obligation for institutional buyers (ministries and government organizations, schools, municipal, health and social institutions) along with individual and affiliated public libraries and the CRSBPs to buy all their books at regular price in at least 3 recognized bookstores from their administrative areas. The Loi sur le développement des entreprises québécoises dans le domaine du livre specify the obligations designed for institutional buyers. These are the five general obligations: All books must be purchased from recognized libraries; All books must be purchased at regular prices; Libraries must buy from within their administrative area; Annually Distribute purchases between 3 recognized libraries from different owners; Annually produce a book purchase report. To be acquainted with the bill s stipulations, visit the ministère de la Culture, des Communications et de la Condition féminine du Québec s site: To consult the list of recognized libraries of your administrative region: To know your administrative area, consult the directory of municipalities: By abiding by this law, you help maintain recognized libraries in our territory, you allow your population to have access to a greater diversity of titles and you contribute to keep specialized jobs in our region. IN SUMMER 2010 DESTINATION JUNGLE In 2010, the activities of the TD Bank s summer reading club will be under the theme Destination Jungle. This thematic will present a universe filled with travel and adventure stories and introduce your young users to the wonders of nature. They will also explore jungles of many continents and will experience extraordinary adventures throughout various unique activities. Each library of the Réseau BIBLIO de l Outaouais will receive, free of charge, a reading kit that includes a poster, stickers and an activity booklet. The booklet contains several games and a log book to record titles already read. Thanks to this reading program, children aged from 6 to 12 years old will discover the jungle and develop their passion for books. The children will enjoy learning and have a fun summer.
3 Page 3 OPENING OF THE NEW LIBRARY OF L ISLE-AUX-ALLUMETTES The Réseau BIBLIO de l Outaouais is proud to welcome a new member in its network, the school/ public library of L Isle-aux-Allumettes. The municipality and the Dr. Wilbert Keon School launched, March 25, 2010, their new library. It will serve the students of the Dr. Wilbert Keon school and the citizens of L Isle-aux-Allumettes. During the inauguration, the mayor, M. Winston Sunstrum, announced that the opening of a public library is part of a strategy to improve the services offered to the citizens and thus, enrich their life quality. The library will become the cultural heart of L Isle-aux-Allumettes. Representations made to nearby municipalities will be undertook by the Réseau BIBLIO de l Outaouais and the municipality of L Isle-aux-Allumettes, to convince the municipalities without a library service to join L Isle-aux-Allumettes and the Dr. Wilbert Keon Shcool and offer their citizens access to culture and reading. Congratulations to the committee, it worked hard to see this project through to completion! GET WELL WISHES We would like offer get well wishes to Mrs. Lafrenière of the Fort-Coulonge library.
