1 CALL FOR PAPERSSPECIAL ISSUE 40 YEARS JOURNAL DESARROLLO Y SOCIEDAD After four decades of uninterrupted publishing of academic manuscripts related with Economics and Social Sciences, the Journal Desarrollo y Sociedad is pleased to announce the call for papers for the 82 nd issue. This number is focused on the celebration of the 40 years of the Journal, and it will be published on February This edition commemorates the effort of authors, editorial team, editorial and scientific committee, reviewers, the Center for Studies on Economic Development (CEDE), the Department of Economics, and the Universidad de Los Andes through all these years. Since the first issue, published on January 1979, the Journal has emphasized on high quality standards, positioning itself as one of the most important journals in Economics in the country. Therefore, we invite economists, professionals, and researchers of related areas within Economics and Social Sciences to participate in this journal and mostly in this number. For this special number, the invited editors are Jimena Hurtado and Andrés Álvarez, both professors of the Department of Economics at Universidad de Los Andes.

2 This issue seeks to gather research that reflects on the evolution of different areas in Economics as an academic product and its application to the Colombian case. We invite to propose manuscripts about: research on evolution of macroeconomic, microeconomic or quantitative methods during the last four decades; The evolution of public policies during the last four decades; Four decades of economics education in Colombia, the evolution of the economic regulation during the last four decades, among others. Every manuscript will be evaluated by peer reviewers using the double blind procedure. The deadline for manuscripts is May 5, For more information, see the instructions below. Paper Submission Instructions for Desarrollo y Sociedad 1. Paper submission Authors who wish to submit their work to Desarrollo y Sociedad Journal must send an anonymous version of the paper, in PDF format through Scholar One Log in with your account. If you re a first-time user, use the Create an Account link to create it. Once logged in, select Author Center and then start the process. Authors must specify that the paper is being sent to the special issue (Special Issue Paper). When a paper is sent to Desarrollo y Sociedad Journal for its possible publication, it is understood that it is not considered by any other journal. 2. The manuscript The articles must be written in Arial or Times New Roman 12, space and a half, with a maximum length of 40 pages including annexes, tables, figures and references. All the pages should be consecutively numbered. Titles and subtitles must be short and informative. 3. Title page A first page of the article must include the title, the name(s) of the author(s), the institution to which they belong, filiation and their contact information. The information that identifies the author(s) should be presented in the footnote of the first page using (*) as the corresponding marker and not the usual consecutive footnote number notation. Authors must choose one corresponding author, who must notify to the other authors of any decision. is used for contact and correspondence; so, it is important authors make sure the or the server do not block messages from the editorial system. In the same way, names, institutions and contact information of at least two reviewers must be included in this page.

3 4. Abstract and key words The first page the manuscript must include an abstract of the article the Journal of Economic Literature (JEL) classification ( and a maximum of five keywords. It is mandatory that all of this information be in both English and Spanish. Each abstract has to be analytical with a maximum length of 150 words; it cannot contain equations or references, and it is expected to include descriptions of the objective, the methods, main results and conclusions. Keywords are important as they are used by web search engines; therefore, they should be carefully selected and not to use the same words as those appearing in the title. 5. Abbreviations Write the term in full at the first mention with the acronym following in parentheses. Use acronym alone thereafter. 6. Footnotes Footnotes should only be used to present explanations and they should be numbered consecutively. They will not contain graphics or equations and use font size 10 and 1.5 spaces between lines. In any case, it is recommended to use the minimum amount possible of footnotes. 7. Mathematical notation Mathematical equations or formulas have to be aligned to the center of the page and they must be consecutively numbered on the right with the Arabic number between parentheses. 8. Tables, graphs charts, photos and illustrations Tables, graphs charts, photos and illustrations will follow Arabic numerals and will have short but explanatory titles. Under the label table it should be included any table with numeric information. Under the label figure it should be included any graph chart, photo or illustration. When an article is submitted it is necessary that the tables and figures be also sent in a separate file in their original format. If the article comes with photos, these have to be sent in separate file.tiff or.eps, 300 PPI minimum and with a note mentioning the size the author wants them to be published. Tables and figures can be located within the article or at the end, and always mentioned in the text. 9. Acknowledgments Once the paper is accepted, authors must include a section named Acknowledgments, after Conclusions and before References. It is mandatory that it includes the following information: If the work received institutional funding, it must be specified the source, and, if possible, information related with the grant, project or contract supporting the research. On the contrary, if the investigation did not get any financing, authors have to explicitly announce it. In addition, authors can also include in this section acknowledgements to previous reviewers or personal recognitions, in case they wish to do so.

4 10. References and quotations The paper should follow the American Psychological Association (APA) format for citations. When an author is quoted within the text of the article, the style of reference should be as follows: Last name (year) when the author s last name is part of the narrative (e.g. Robinson (2005)); (Last name, year) when the author s last name it is not part of the narrative (e.g. (Robinson, 2005)). When there is more than two authors Last_Name et al. (year) has to be used (e.g. Robinson et al. (2005)). If there is more than one article per author for the same year, the alphabetical order notation should be used (Robinson, 2005a, Robinson, 2005b, etc.). For more information please search APA format in References must be listed alphabetically at the end and by year if there is more than one article by the same author. All the quotes of the article should appear in the references and all the references have to be quoted in the text. The scheme to follow is: a) for articles: last name, first name initial letter, (year) title, name of journal, volume (number), first-last page number; b) for book chapters: last name, first name initial letter, (year) title of the chapter last name and first name initial letter of the editor, Title of the book (pages of the chapter), city of publication and editorial; and c) for books: last name, first name initial letter, (year) Title of the book, city of publication and editorial. 11. Editorial committee contributions and articles evaluation All the contributions are subject to regular evaluation process established by the editorial committee. Before publication, each article received is revised according to the objectives and editorial policy of the journal, minimum academic quality standards, originality, and the requirements defined in the authors instructions. The manuscripts that fulfill the above conditions are evaluated by two anonymous referees. The review comments will be known by the author(s). The editorial committee will inform the author(s) of the final editorial decision as to whether or not their article will be published in the corresponding edition. 12. Copyright agreement Each author must accept and sign a copyright transfer agreement. This agreement includes the format or material support and extends to the use of the papers in magnetic and electronic formats. This authorization permits the incorporation of titles, authors, abstracts, and the complete text in data base or on national and international electronic pages. 13. Proofs and complementary copies If an article is approved for publication, a proof of the final version of the article will be sent to the authors for its final style correction and approval. When the journal starts circulating each author or co-author will receive, via , a magnetic version of their article and two courtesy printed copies of the corresponding journal itself by regular mail service. 14.
