1 CAMP FALLING ROCK SUMMER CAMP MERIT BADGES AND PREREQUISITES LIST Revised 3/17/14 DISCLAIMER: Many merit badges offered at camp cannot be completed within the one-week session. It can be frustrating for the youth (and adult leaders) to return from a program area at summer camp with only partial completion of the merit badge requirements. History also shows that youths receiving partials at camp are less likely to go home and finish those merit badges than if they did all of the requirements at home in the first place. As a camp staff, one of the problems we face is the stereotype that summer camp just gives away merit badges without the youth actually doing the requirements or learning anything. This is why in 2012 we are putting even more focus on providing quality instruction. In order to do this, we can only focus on the requirements that we can actually teach satisfactorily at camp. Because of this, we have adopted this uniform set of prerequisites for some of the merit badges; if a scout comes with the prerequisites in hand, they can complete all of their merit badges. We urge both adults and scouts to look through the requirements of the badges they wish to take before coming to camp. Some of the badges require a little research about certain topics. Our camp computers are used for the Computers merit badge, so they are not always available for other purposes, so we strongly suggest bringing relevant research as well. Also, if a requirement is not listed, it can be completed at camp, but there may be other options available to complete that requirement that the boy may want to do instead. Additional fine print : Scouts must complete all of the requirements of a merit badge in order to earn that badge. The requirements for every merit badge the BSA offer are found in the current Boy Scout Requirements book (#34765) or online at There are no alternative summer camp requirements. Each program area will have the most current revision of the merit badge pamphlets for each merit badge they offer. Each scout is expected to supply the correct merit badge pamphlet for the badges he wishes to earn. Camp Falling Rock and its staff reserve the right to add or take away from this list of merit badges offered according to our available staff and equipment, though we hope we don t need to. Note: Summer camps are not authorized by the Advancement Committee to offer merit badges not included in this document.
