He is n rtist, illustrr nd writer from Belfst, Northern Irelnd who now lives nd works in Brooklyn, New York. He grduted from the University of Ulster in His beutiful nd unique style of rtwork hs tken him on mny dventures of his own, including being the rtist of 10 commissioned rtworks for London br nd n lbum cover designer. Oliver loves pinting nd uses wide vriety of medi. He begn writing nd illustrting children s sries (just like the ones tht I m in) when he relised tht people didn t believe wht he did with his time. His debut picture book, How, ws inspired by moment sitting on the end of jetty in Sydney, looking t the strs nd wishing tht he could find one of his very own. Whilst Oliver wrote bout my serch for str, HrperCollins knew they hd found one! They published How in 2004 nd since then its populrity hs grown rpidly. 6 Pg 6 Music in the Show A few words from Frnk Goodhind, our Musicl Direcr & Composer The sry of the boy nd his quest find str of his very own is one tht mny people cn relte ; I think we ve ll tken prt in similr dventure t some point in our lives nd hve felt the immense joy of chieving our gol. When thinking bout creting the music for production such s this, my first inspirtion lwys comes from my own children, both of whom hve gone through everything tht the boy is going through broken-down rockets nd everything! So when I first met the boy nd red his sry, I tried remember wht things I hd experienced s Dd nd lso from when I ws the boy s ge. For exmple, when I ws younger, I vividly remember wnting dog so bdly; imgining us being the very best of friends, plying gether nd curling up gether on my bed t night time. After wht seemed like n emotionl rollercoster of wtching birthdys nd Christmses come nd go nd begging my prents, I got my wish nd becme the proud owner of Smrtie, the Jck Russell! So tht s how I get the emotion in the music, not by forcing my own emotions on the chrcter or the sry, but by finding something within the sry tht I cn empthise with. From there, the music often writes itself, in mnner of speking. There re lwys clues in the sry s how prticulr piece of music should sound nd they often dictte rhythm or style.
