18 Preparing a Bibliography Whenever you write a report where you have to look up things you don t know, you need a bibliography. You need to tell your reader where you got your information. This is called citing your sources. Every place you look for information and find something that you use in your report is one of your sources. All of your sources need to be in the bibliography. Because you will be looking in different kinds of places you will need to know how to cite each type of source. This is how to make entries in you bibliography for; A Book Last name of the author, first name of the author, (period) the title of the book, (underlined), where the book was published, (city and state if inside the United States, city and country if outside the United States) the publishing company and the date published. A website Last name of the author, first name of the author. "Title of Specific Page." (in quotation marks) Title of Main Page (underlined). Date of publication (this may be the date of the last update). Date that you visited the website. <URL> (This is found in the address bar on the web browser. It will look something like; relookingat. 20 Project Ideas A project helps you understand more about your state. It can also be very interesting for other people to see. Your teacher will tell you how many projects you will need to accompany your state report. Here are some ideas. If you have another idea, check with your teacher before you start. Construct a timeline of historical events. Draw a large flag of your state Create a variety of state maps including; a relief map, a resources map with attached figures and a large political map. Make a diorama or other three-dimensional representation of a state place of interest. Research a famous or interesting person from the state and write a biography. Create a play or puppet show about a moment in the state s history. Find and communicate with a pen pal from the state. Create a travel brochure, pamphlet, or poster that would make someone interested in visiting or moving to your state. Dress in clothing unique to your state past and/or present. Make graphs that show facts about your state. Collect articles about your state and put together a state scrapbook.
