2 The Aim To work towards doing literature research independently and effectively mainly by using the University Library as a Portal Objectives To understand a citation and be able to find an item using one (To( recognise the need for acknowledgement when using other people s work) To use the web for authoritative information (To recognise the need n to evaluate findings) To understand field- index searching (To recognise the use of field searching in databases, library catalogue) To understand all the aspects of the University Library provision n (To begin to recognise the complexity of modern libraries and the value of different resources and services and how information is organised) To know different types of publications (To be able to differentiate iate between different publications) To be able to write citations and bibliographies for different materials m using the referencing style (To understand the need for standards s in academic writing) To understand when a need for information is met or not.
