1 Central Valley School District Library 2 nd Grade August September Standards October Standards Library Rules and Routines Develop an understanding of rules in the library (e.g., library voice, listening skills, sitting appropriately in chairs, etc.) Students will share book-care ideas based on their own experiences Demonstrate how bookmarks are used Develop an understanding of circulation procedures Read books on manners and make the connection to good library manners Make seating chart for all students STAR Collaborate with other teachers regarding testing procedures Distribute book marks with reading levels Book care Develop an understanding of proper care of materials borrowed (e.g. holding a book with spine facing down, turning pages correctly, and proper care of books outside library) Floor Plan of Library Develop understanding of the different sections of the library (e.g. story corner, circulation desk, and area for book selection) Listen to literature about holidays (Halloween) Parts of a Book Recognizing parts of a book (e.g., spine, cove, pages, call number, title page, author, and illustrator) Illustrate sample cover of book (multiple classes) Understand books are arranged by alphabetical order according to author s last name
