2 Pre-Reading Examine the illustrations on the cover and throughout the book. Make a list of things you know about the story. Then, make a list of predictions about what will happen in the story. Color and cut out the cover illustrations for your lapbook. In addition to the provided decorations, you may wish to add your own drawings, stickers, etc. Chapter 1: Pippi Moves into Villa Villekulla Cut out, assemble, and fill in the Elements of a Book/Book Facts mini book. Compare and contrast Pippi with Tommy and Annika. You may wish to create a Venn diagram. Draw a picture of Pippi using the description of her included in this chapter as a guide. Locate Egypt and Congo on a map or globe. Make and eat pancakes the correct way. Chapter 2: Pippi is a Thing-Finder and Gets into a Fight Assemble the All About Pippi/Attributes flip book. Fill in some of the information that you already know about Pippi. Add more information about Pippi as you continue reading. Try your hand at thing-finding. Gather some random household objects, and think of unusual uses for them! Research and try a recipe for pepparkakor. Locate Borneo and Guatemala on a map or globe.

3 Chapter 3: Pippi Plays Tag with Some Policemen Assemble the Realistic or Fantasy? foldable. Discuss the aspects of fantasy books versus those of realistic books. How do we know that Pippi Longstocking is a fantasy story? Discuss community helpers and authority figures such as police. Who are helpers in your community? Who are authority figures in your life? Locate Portugal on a map or globe. Chapter 4: Pippi Goes to School Cut out and fold the Why Should Pippi Go To School? foldable. Write one reason why Pippi should go to school on each blank square. Continue your discussion of authority figures and community helpers. How could Pippi have treated the policemen and teacher with more respect? Locate India and Argentina on a map or globe. Chapter 5: Pippi Sits on the Gate and Climbs a Tree Locate China on a map or globe. Discuss Pippi s stories. Do you believe any of them are true? Why do you think Pippi makes up so many stories and tells so many lies? Draw or paint a picture of Pippi s garden based on the description in the book.

4 Chapter 6: Pippi Arranges a Picnic In this chapter, Pippi speaks of a man that she met in China. Think about some of the other places that Pippi claims to have visited. Cut, fold, and color the Pippi s Travels foldable for your lapbook to document her adventures. Pack and enjoy a picnic lunch. Research edible plants/berries that can be found in the wild. Locate Saudi Arabia on a map or globe. Chapter 7: Pippi Goes to the Circus Practice counting coins and making change, as if you were the lady at the circus ticket booth. Learn about horses. Check out books from the library or look for information on the internet. You may wish to explore breeds, anatomy, or jobs horses are used to complete. Chapter 8: Pippi Entertains Two Burglars Assemble the Dear Pippi foldable. Pretend that you are one of the burglars and write a thank you note to Pippi for the fun, food, and gold piece. (Alternatively, this foldable could be used to write a letter to Pippi from the reader.) Discuss safety rules and stranger danger. Attempt playing the comb with a comb and wax paper. Wrap a plastic comb with a small sheet of wax paper. Then, gently hold between your pressed lips and hum!

5 Chapter 9: Pippi Goes to a Coffee Party Practice demonstrating good table manners. You may wish to invite friends over for a tea or coffee party, or simply practice over lunch or dinner. Chapter 10: Pippi Acts as a Lifesaver Complete the lapbook foldable entitled A Daring Rescue. Pretend that you work for a newspaper, and write an article describing how PIppi rescued the boys. Then, draw a picture in the oval frame. Make a list of fire safety tips and hold a fire drill. Discuss and practice the proper procedure in case of a fire, and test your fire alarms. Pay a visit to your local fire department to thank the firemen/ women who help keep your town or city safe. Chapter 11: Pippi Celebrates Her Birthday Proofread Pippi s invitation and then rewrite it with correct spelling and punctuation. Decorate if desired. Review the location of China and India on a map or globe. Locate the continent of South America on a map or globe, and discuss the difference between countries and continents. Complete the book review and adhere it to the back of the lapbook.
