1 GRADE 6 All students in Grade 6 will read: The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe by C.S. Lewis The Red Pyramid by Rick Riordan The student will have to complete two written assignments one for each book. One will be a movie review, the other will be journal entries of their chosen character. The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe: Students will write a book review of The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe. This will be written in the student s voice as a book critic, awarding the book either a thumbs up or a thumbs down rating. This critique should include a review of the plot, the genre, the theme, characterizations and overall rating and impression. (At least one typed page. 12 pt. font. Times New Roman. Doublespaced.) The Red Pyramid: Students will write five journal entries in the voice of their chosen character in the book, The Red Pyramid. Each journal entry should be at least one paragraph (5-7 sentences) and include details from the plot and extended understanding of the theme.

4 SUMMER MATH WORK FOR OUTGOING 6TH GRADE Outgoing 6 th Grade: In order to prepare for next year and to retain skills learned this year, we are utilizing the ALEKS program for summer math work. Ten assignments will be created, and they will be available to begin working on by June 26th. These assignments will count as a quiz grade in the first trimester of next school year. All assignments can be attempted multiple times and only the highest grade will count. In order to benefit from this review work, take your time, have pencil and paper next to you and take advantage of the tutorial ALEKS offers. This should be your work, and your work only! Crayola colored pencils (Must be Crayola) 1 Crayola 16 color Washable Watercolor paint set (Must be Crayola & 16 colors) 1 pair of good scissors 2-3 glue sticks (0.78 or larger are best, Elmer glue preferred) o They will need to be replaced during the year 1 12 inch plastic or wooden ruler 5-6 sharpened #2 pencils 1-2 pink erasers 1 smock or oversized t-shirt to wear during art o You MUST label the smock with NAME AND GRADE ** Recommended but NOT mandatory for ALL grades Art Box Quick View Carrying Case (translucent, easy grip for traveling) Dimensions are 12 x 9 7/8 o This item can be purchased at art supply stores or Michaels. It is priced around $9.00 **Everything should be able to fit in a plastic art box including the smock. Please label the art box with the student s name and grade.
