To nme ny one mn s the str for Clemson would be doing the other four injustice: they ll fetured. "It int the blls or bskets nor the gols they my throw, But the close coopertion tht piles up the score. Some of the slient points of his ddress re given" below. speker sid tht he hd stopped tlking long go of the why of this wr. He ws like George Ade, in tht he believed tht we hven't the time to reson or rgue bout the cuses of our entrnce into the gret conflict. We must forget the little things nd fight for the better nd bigger things. We re fighting for wht wte cll "Americ" nd the liberty nd freedom to crve out our ntionl destiny tht tht word implies. We hve come from men who never knew the yoke of dicttion or oppression. If we lose this wr, we lose everything. If Germny should enter Wshington we would be nothing but bonded slves. Tht my seem fr- fetched, but Germn records nd Germn schemes which hve been found show tht such pln ws thought of twenty yers go. Every Americn should hve his mind mde up now. This is no' time for undecision. No hour is blcker in Americn history thn the coming spring of We fce terrible trils nd difficulties. "I would lose my fith in God, if I did not think tht our righteous cuse will win in tht struggle." Every Americn hs his prt in the gret wr tsk. Our country cnnot be stisfied for ny person to be simply mentlly in fvor of the wr. This is (Continued on Pge Two.) NEWBERRY TEAM HERE FRIDAY. After hving written something in nother prt of this issue concerning the uncertinty of our bsket bll schedule, nd since it ws too lte to keep the first writing from going to press, we sk the reders to prdon this seemingly contrdictory sttement. Ne\vberry will be here Fridy, nd will ply our bsket bll tem on the Y. M. C. A. court. Newberry hs held the stte chmpionship for five consecutive sesons, nd it is our intention to tke it from them this yer. We re going to do it. We lost the chmpionship lst yer by losing gme to Crolin during the first prt of the session, becuse we hd to ply under entirely different, conditions to wht we hd been ccustomed to. We re not going to lose single gme this seson; so let's everybody be out Fridy to see the Tigers weld nother link of victory to their fultess chr** of gmes. It seems tht our distinguished qurter-mster, cdet Cptin Robert Aldrich, Slim, hs blossomed out in new light, It is thought tht he spires to be the Hwkshw of the vicinity, ltho his initil venture, "On the Tril of the Pedigreed Rooster," hs proved filure. However, it is hoped tht with severl yers' prctice his technique will so improve tht he will be ble to detect tht there re seven dys in week.

THE FUNCTION OF THE COLLEGE PAPER. college pper is one of lie foremost evidences of university life. In its pges re found the history of the college life s it is written from dy to dy or from week to week. As the officil student publiction, it is intended first of ll for the undergrdute body. It records students interests nd its columns re written by students. Here students' opinion finds medium for expression; here the forces of influence my be brought to ber most strongly. Every legitimte ctivity of college life hs right to its spce. college pper is the direct connection between the student body nd the fculty nd dministrtion of the institution. Fculty interests nd student interests re linked together in the common bond of collegite work. success of the professor in the chir nd of the clssmen in front of him finds union in its pges. Bck of the student bcty nd the fculty stnds the gret body of lumni who hve gone out from the institution. ir ipterest nd enthusism find strength nd stimultion in the ctivity nd progress of their lm mter. From the pper they judge whether times chnges bring improvement. Beyond these clsses which the publiction reches, there is nother not less importnt. To numerous colleges turnout the lnd, the sheet goes with its mesure of good report or bd. In the editoril rooms of college ppers in Msschusetts nd iu Oregon, opinons of the institutions from which prticulr exchnge comes re being formed. university nd collegite system of the whole lnd is bound together thru the medium of the college press. Ex. One more tem lid to rest, nd we re tht much nerer the chmpionship. Wofford fellows plyed good gme, but they were entirely outclssed, s could be seen from the first. Newberry will be next to bow before the victorious Timers. CONTRIBUTION OF A HEART-SICK FRIEND. I've led fst life, Erned ll I spent. Pid wht I borrowed, Lost wht I lent. I once hd girl, Tht cme to n end. Get good dog, boys, He'll be your friend. -Ex. TIMELY ADVICE FROM MAJ. MAR TIN. Fellows, below we re gld to publish letter from Mjor Mrtin to you, which you should red nd heed. fe is no one who hs the interests of the boys t hert more thn Prof. Mrtin, nd nything from him is stright from the shoulder. Red Avht he sjrs, nd, "buck up." To Editor of Tiger Der Sir: With your permission, I wish to sy few words through your pper to the Corps of Cdets t this time, on the importnce nd necessity of hrd nd persistnt study for the pproching exmintions. As chirmn of the Re-exmi ntion nd Promotion Committee, I see the result of filures from little different view point thn most observers, nd the mny ppels tht come to me, boh from students nd prents; mke me ernstly desire to relieve their condition' tht confronts us ech June nd to prevent,, if possible, so mny filures. June seems long time off nd there is one term fter this one before the end of the session but remember tht the filures in the first term count just s much s the filures in the other terms nd your record for the three terms will be considered when the Committee psses on your promotion. A student is often inclined to neglect study tht he does not like or one tht he cn't see where he will ever hve ny use for, but remember tht the courses of study re the results of creful study nd long experience nd it often hppens tht student uses most fter he leves college, the study tht he thought the lest of, while in college. Under the rules of the fculty Freshmn is not llowed to tke the clss over except by specil permission of the fculty, it therefore behooves the Freshmen, prticulrly to look crefully to the records they re mking. Just t this time students should be prticulrly creful bout visiing during : hi iy hours. If you find yourself iu clined to visit your friend don't do it. He should be studying if you re not, nd he is too polite to invite you to leve, so you re uot only throwing wy your own time but re cusing others to lose vluble time. So I wish to implore the students to pply themselves dilligently, thereby sving themselves the humilition of filure, nd their prents sorrow nd disppointment. Respectfully submitted, S. M. Mrtin. DR.
