3 What is Scopus? The largest abstract and citation database of peer reviewed research literature and quality web sources. More than 19,500 titles from more than 5,000 international publishers worldwide Over 50 million records, 23 million patents from 5 patent offices worldwide Scopus also offers full integration of the scientific web in its search results with: 435 million scientific web pages (Scirus) Modern Discovery tools Author and Affiliation search, Author Analyzer, Journal Analyzer, Citations Tracking etc

7 Journal Evaluation some challenges: Impact Factor Disadvantages of Impact Factor: difficult to compare, not recent enough, lack of clarity of data origin/risk of manipulation, lack of coverage Alternative measures in Scopus: Source Normalized Impact per Paper (SNIP) measures contextual citation impact by weighting citations based on the total number of citations in a subject field. SCImago Journal Rank (SJR) is a prestige metric based on the idea that 'all citations are not created equal'. SJR accounts for both the number of citations received by a journal and the importance or prestige of the journals where such citations come from Comparison Recent Data origin Coverage Normalization of differences between fields Refreshed twice per year: April and September Eliminates risk of manipulation All 18,000+ journals, proceedings and book series in Scopus receive SJR and SNIP values Added value in areas like Social Sciences and Humanities

14 Scopus: citation tracker You can include up to 5000 documents in a Citation Tracker. If you select more than 5000 documents only the first 5000 are included in the Citation Tracker 14
