8 UT Martin Paul Meek Library Yearly Highlights The past year has seen continuing growth and improvement in the resources and services of the Paul Meek Library. In spite of a complicated roofing project, attendance increased by 9%. Due to the second wave of ARRA/Stimulus Funds the library was able to support: A part-time Special Collections Assistant Upgrades to the Interlibrary Loan Department Enhancements to the III integrated library system Added additional titles to the circulating collection Additional databases and electronic titles Technology upgrade for Bibliographic Instruction Room Security cameras added Roofing and soffit replacement The Technology Fee supported: Computer Lab on first floor New scanner for multi-media station Two portable projectors Facilities Fee improvements: Carpet replacement for most of first floor New furnishing for second floor Hosted the inaugural Meek Literacy Legacy Lecture, featuring granddaughters of former VCAA, Dr. Norman Campbell. Lauren Myracle and Susan Rebecca White, both noted authors, gave an informative and well attended lecture. The volunteer project, which is in the second year, continues to thrive. Friends of the Meek Library continued their success and support with a donation of $1,500 from their yearly book sale. This gift funded a proposal by Tim Hacker to purchase materials dealing with the Holocaust. The Friends also initiated a monthly Brown Bag Lunch which features faculty from the campus community.
9 Many of the PML faculty and staff journeyed to Murray State to visit the Waterfield Library for professional development and partnership building. The Murray State librarians later visited UTM. Also, several librarians attended WeTALC meetings at Union University in Jackson and the University of Memphis. We were able to assist Freed-Hardeman University with their yearbook digital archival project by allowing access to our KIC scanner. VCAA, Dr. Jerald Ogg, converted the temporary ARRA Electronic Resources/Outreach position to a permanent faculty slot for PML. This position is shared between Marlow Peters and Karen White, both of whom became embedded librarians with several classes for the first time. Library Subject Liaisons were designated for each academic department. LibGuides, a web-based library tool, was launched. Other significant improvements to the facility/resources: Netbooks added to Media Department for in-house use AED defibrillators added and emergency protocols enhanced Electrical receptacles added to north balcony of 2 nd floor Planted an herb garden in the entry area of the library Sampling of Library Events: Alumni Council Luncheon Legacy Luncheon Alumni Brunch at Homecoming UTJC and Golden Grad Reunions Featured Faculty receptions held Fall and Spring Semesters Banned Book Week celebrated Tennessee Textbook Depository Surplus offered to area educators Student Teacher Career Fair Hosted and presented Obion County Department of Education Librarian In-service Held WeTALC Reference Meeting Tennessee Library Association Staff Development workshop Westview High School Recycle Project display in lobby Faculty Senate Library Committee meetings Plus, many library instruction classes, workshops and tours for special groups.
