4 Biographical/Historical note August Mayworm was born March 1840 in Prussia. He moved to Grant Township in Keweenaw County in the 1870s. By 1882, Mayworm had moved to Tamarack and opened a saloon and boardinghouse. As well as running the saloon, he became an agent for the C. C. Douglass Company; collecting rents and selling property on its behalf. August's son Joseph (born 1880) was working at the saloon with his father from at least He became the saloon keeper around When August died (probably in 1915), Joseph appears to have taken over his work for the C. C. Douglass Company. By the time Joseph Mayworm died in 1925, the saloon (which converted to a soft drink parlor during prohibition) had already closed. Collection Scope and Content Summary This collection consists of financial records of August and Joseph Mayworm.
