The items donated at Hoodland Library will go to the Hoodland Fire District s Community Christmas Basket program for local families. 2 Winter Reads What library staff like to read during the winter months I don t think I could get all the way through War and Peace, by Tolstoy, but the DVD version with Audrey Hepburn and Hen ry Fonda is my favorite winter viewing. I watch it on New Years Eve if I m not doing any parties, because it is very long and I stay up late to watch the whole thing. It is beautifully made with lots of snowy scenes during the peaceful festive times and sad war scenes. Such drama and pathos as well as love, loyalty and sacrifice. -Melody Mayner I like to listen to audiobooks during the winter, it keeps my hands free to knit. Behind The Beautiful Forevers was the last one I listened to. So she leaves a note for her family and helps her elderly neighbor prepare for the holiday, then she straps on her skis, and heads out into the snowy landscape. From a red bird to a polar bear to a reindeer, a menagerie of winter animals help Anja make her way to Santa. I love this photographic adventure. -Thea Kuziemski
