Citations analysis is a process to establish the relationship between one works to other research works by mathematical and statistical calculations. The study covers the number of cited articles, authorship pattern of cited articles, document wise distribution of cited articles, consultation frequency of electronic citations and print citations, number of references per articles, year wise distribution of cited articles. The study concluded merits/ demerits of the journal which will be helpful for its further evaluation. Keywords: Citation analysis, Library and Information Science research, Authorship Pattern, Geographical area wise distribution, Electronic citations and Print citations. 1. INTRODUCTION Bibliometrcis the term was originated by Alan Pritchard in the year 1969 and says that bibliometric is an application of mathematic and statistical methods to books, journals and other media The literally means of bibliometrics is book measurement but the term covers all kinds of document s likes journal articles, books, etc. Bibliometrics study does not cover the physical properties of the documents but its covers the mathematical and statistical patterns of media of scholarly communication 9. Earlier the term bibilometrics proposed by Pritchard the term statistical bibliography was in use for science and technology that was coined by Hulem in the year communication such as authorship pattern, sources, subjects, geographical genesis, citations etc. The term bibliometrics is a combination of two root words BIBLIO and METIRCS. So many authors have defined the meaning Library & Information Science Research journal is one of the open access refereed journal published through Elsevier Library and Information Science programme. Author explore that 24 core of LIS journals have selected and relevant data of co citations where manipulated or calculated by the Chinese journal full text database by the China national knowledge infrastructure during the period of study 1999 to Author find the strong relationship among LIS journals in China by calculating, mean co-citation frequency and correlation coefficient. Simisaye & Osinaike (2010) 5 have studied citation analysis of journal of library and information science during the period 2004 to Researcher carried out that 72 articles were published throughout the study period, most of the article were publish in year 2007 and 2008 with 14 number of article, total 998 number of references was cited by the journal. Chikate & Patil (2008) 7 analyzed the citation analysis of the theses in library and information science subject submitted by university of Pune. Author concluded that 42.2% citations out of 6,257 were examine from journals, Collage and research Libraries was one of the most cited journal by LIS researchers during the period of study which was cited 141 times, Bradford s law of scattering has confirmed by the author with geometric series in the form of 11:55:300. Researcher also highlighted the publisher wise distribution of the citations, subject wise distribution, language wise distribution and authorship pattern etc. 3. PURPOSE OF THE STUDY The basic purpose of the study is to analyze year wise distribution of cited articles, estimate the quantitative growth of articles by volume, authorship pattern of the publication, discuss the frequency of electronic citations and print citations, and document wise distributions of cited articles during the respective period of the study. 4. OBJECTIVES OF THE STUDY The following objectives have been undertaken for the compilation of the study these are as follow. i. To identify the year-wise distribution v. To know the consultation frequency of cited journals. of electronic citations and print ii. To estimate the quantitative growth citations of articles by volume vi. To identify geographical distribution iii. To study the authorship pattern of of articles. the cited articles. iv. To explore the document wise distributions of cited articles. 5. LIMITATIONS OF THE STUDY The study Citation analysis of Library and Information Science Research Journal covers 10 year publication of the journal which includes 10 volumes and 44 issues consisting 293 articles, cited articles. Library & Information Science Research is one of the open access refereed journal published through Elsevier Library and Information Science programme. METHODOLOGY Study examined the article published in Library and Information Science Research Journal over the period of 2005 to All article and their references are carefully and systemically examined to obtain appropriate data. Total 40 issues (volume 27 to 36) of the library and information science research journal have been consulted during the year 2005 to 2014.The details with regard to each published article such as title of the articles, number of authors, their institutional affiliations and addresses, no. of references with list, page number of tables and figures, etc., were recorded and analyzed for making observations. Tables are made by tally mark system counting one by one reference data and other information. All the data has been allocated and presented in difference tables. The Microsoft excel package has been used for the frequency counts and data percentages. 7. The lowest number of articles published in volume numbers 29 in the year 2007 which consisting only 25 numbers of articles. It is found that the researchers preferred journal articles more frequently for their research work, than any other types of communication channels. CONCLUSIONS The Citation analysis studies are frequently used to assess the research publication and to generate information that could be used by policy makers and experts. In this citation analysis study researcher concluded that the maximum number of citations 1905 [13.85%] produced in 2013 followed by 1884 [13.70%] citations in 2012, 1605 [11.67%] citations in 2011 and lowest in the year 2005 with 985 [7.16%]. Single author s citations are more than those of double and triple authors. Resulted that 6482 citations [ 47.13%] involved single authors followed by 3634 citations [26.42%] involved double authors, 1117 citations [8.12%] involved corporate authors, 1504 citations [10.93%] involved triple authors and1014 citations [7.37%] involved four and more authors. The contributions from the USA have the highest contribution with 146 [54.88%] from given period of study. Majority of the contributors preferred journals as the source of information which occupied the top position with the highest number of citations 8229 [59.84%] of the total citations.
