Quiz name: Stalked Quiz - Deadliest Fan (Student Developed Questions 9/17/2014) Question with Most Correct Answers: # 0 Question with Fewest Correct Answers: # 0 Date: 9/22/2014 Total Questions: Based on what you know, how would you explain the reason why the stalker chose her? Rachel Z ambrano Gisell b T he stalker chose her because he thought that she was the one for her. He also thought that she reminded him of a girls at school. Walter may have also Chose her because theyhad the same interest. T hey were also both into comics the stalker chose her because he felt a connection to her. she illustrates comic book art for a living. Her artwork is out anywhere so when Walter picked up a comic book & saw that colleen drew it he mustve felt like colleen drew it for him. He was obsessed with her and her comic books. He would send drawings of them together. He would write about how much he appreciated her work. It was obvious he fell in love through her work. the reason walter stalked colleen was because he liked her drawings. another reason is because she reminded him of school girls that used to like him. also is he probably thought he could easily get into her head. Joseluis Mag ana I believe the stalker chose her because he liked comic books and she also did. She drew comic books in her house and also liked them. All these things relate to him so he thinks that they're ment to be just because of those details. He is stalking because he fell in love with her. He loved her for her illustrations. She was easy and vaurnable. she liked comic books like him Based on what we know, we assume that the stalker chose Coleen because Walter was obsessed with her. He was fascinated with comic books, & specifically in Coleens's work. T herefore, Walter wanted a relationship with her. Ratherless, he wanted to become emotionally attached to her. Walter chose Colleen because they had a similar interest. She was a comic book artist and he was a comic book hoarder and he was in love with her drawings. He felt that he actually knew her through the comic books. walter stalked colleen because he felt connected with her. he told her in the beggining that she reminded him of school girls that liked him. he also stalked her because he felt he was getting to know her in her drawings and fell in love with her.he probably thought it would be easy to push her around. I believe the stalker chose her because he liked comic books and he liked that she was a comic book writer. He also chose her because he knew she was able to be pushed around. He admired what she did for a living. He also thought she was an easy target. I believe he chose her because she like the same as him. She is a comic book writer. Walter is a big fan of comic books, he has a

collection of comic books. He loved her drawings. T he reason why the stalker chose her is because he's in love with her.he felt that way because he noticed her comic book art.also because he felt like he knew her through the comic books.lastly because she was famous. T he stalker chose her because he wanted a relationship with her and became emotionally involved. T he stalker was emotionally involved due to the fact that he admired the victims work. Often the stalker would send the victim art pieces he had worked on. T he stalker felt that art was their connection. I believe walter chose her because he liked some of her qualities. For example he was obsessed with comics and she was a comic book writer.walter and Colleen also shared simliar intrest which could also be another result in his obsession. 2. What do you believe the result would be if Walter hadn't been caught? Why? Rachel Z ambrano Gisell b T he result if walter wouldnt have been caught would of been bad. For one, Colleen could of been found dead. He could of gotten mad because she had no interest in him. T his could of caused him to blow up on her. Esculating into violence. T he result would've ended up aggressive & really dangerous. Usually stalkers like walter dont handle reject well. So when colleen wouldnt reply back to him he got angry & wanted to do something that would hurt colleen. Walter would still be stalking Colleen. His obsession would still remain. She would still receive letters. She would still receive mysterious packages. i belive the result would be if walter hadnt been caught is he would get more controlling and agressive. Walter was already getting fustrated when she wasnt responding to his mail. also he was trying to get her fired from her job. he also messed with her personal life by calling her friend. in my opinion he would continue doing those type of things. Joseluis Mag ana I think that Walter would've eventually been irratated & impacient because the victim would not pay any attention and try to avoid him in the near future. T hat would've made the stiuation worse and more dangerous. T he outcome would mostly likely be that Walter would eventually hurt Colleen. Walter already threatened Colleen's job and sent people to approach her. When he tried to approach her, things did not go well. He would eventually become frustrated with his failed attempts and escalate to possibly hurting Colleen because she doesnt love him the way he wants her too. If Walter hadn't been caught, he wouldve escalated and became violent. He wouldve been more violent because he was already going to approach her. He even had friends and his mother to approach Colleen. He was getting impatient because she didnt respond to any of his letters. If Walter to be caught the police wouldn't have done anything. Back then there wasn't any laws about stalking. It wasn't till later where laws where made to deal with this sort of thing. i believe that if walter hadnt been caught he would continue getting worse and more agressive. for example when he was getting

fustrated because she wasnt respnding to his mail he started messing with her career. he started getting more agressive when he started contacting her friends.he started going further when he showerd up at the convention with his mom. i just think it would just keep going down hill from there. He would probably still continue to stalk her and probably try to approach her more often. He would gotten more aggressive. He would try to hurt her because he would get frustrated that she didn't love him. He would probably try to kill her because she would always reject him. he probably wouldve continued stalking her because it was easy to stalk her If walter hadnt been caught,it would have lead to a kipnap.t he reason why is because he would have felt rejected.also because he would have gotten tired of waiting.lastly because he was already too obsessed with her. Walter was going to let all his anger out after being ignored. Walter would've felt rejected because he had already sent her hundreds of msgs. She never replied. T he result would have been that the victim would have been dead. Stalkers tend to become violent when they are rejected. T his rejection causes the stalker to approach the victim and demand to know why she is rejecting him. In this altercation the stalker usually kills their victim. I believe walter would have wanted to have to become more pyschical with her. Walter would have taken things to the next level and show up at her house and try and meet her. I also believe he would've became more violent because he was being rejected so many times.

3. What inferences can you make about Walter and his ability to get his friends to stalk for him? He is very demanding and probably forced them to do it. He had to be very manipulative. He has a strong attitude. Its probable that he is very convincing and controlling. the inferences i can make about walter and his ability to get his friends to stalk for him is that he is good at manipulating people. he can easily get into your head and make you do thing for him. for example his friends he encouraged them to go to colleen and poke her. also he manipulated his own mom to to to talk to colleen. An inference we could make is that Walter is manipulative. We can say that he is manipulative because of the way he is willing to try anything to keep contact with her. He persuades his friends and family to approach her. For example, Walter's mother at one point approached Colleen. Walter is a very manipulative and controlling person. He was able to persuade his friends and mother to join him on stalking her. He couldve had something against them. He he couldve just paid them. Walter was manipulative and was willing to do anything to try to reach her. He was also a convincing and controlling man if he can make his friends go harrass another person for him. He's very demanding and probably forced them to do it for him. He would also be very persuasive and making them stalk for him. It tells that Walter is a manitilative. He uses others for his biding, it also tells he is very controlling. he was good at mannipulating people Walter is a manipulating person.he got his friends to help him out.he got his mother involved as well.also because he was desperate for colleen. His friends weren't aware of what he was doing. It's not normal for someone to help someone stalk. Walter lied about his intention. By having someone do that for him, they probably felt bad for him. T he stalker is manipulative and controlling. Usually when it comes to stalking others refuse to become involved. However Walter got his friends and his mother to help him with his stalking. In the video we could see that Walters mom was scared, which means he was probably controlling and forcing her to engage in this behavior. I believe walter is manipulative. He can eaisly get people to believe what he's saying.he is smart because it is hard to get someone to do that.

4. T heorize the reasons as to why Walter is trying to get her fired. He wants revenge. If Colleen is still rejecting him, then he wants to get her fired. All of her rejection compelled him to do that. He was angry so he called her publishers and told lies. walter was trying to get her fired because he was getting fustrated at the fact she wasnt responding to his letters. he was getting angry at her for not noticing him as he wanted. he was probably getting her fired so she could have full attention on him. he felt a sense of rejection. Walter's behavior becomes more of a jealousy type. He begins to show her that he has power over her. For instance, he attempted to get Colleen fired by calling companies and making her seem unfit for the job. He shows her that he is willing to do anything to see her physically. He wanted to get her fired because he was fed up with her not responding back. He was starting to get mad and so he started lashing out. He wanted her to be even more vulnerable and metally exhausted. As a result, it gives him an opporitunity to strike. She wouldn't reply to any of his cards so he would feel rejected. Colleen would denied him more than once. Walter was upset because colleen doesn't want to be with him so he was trying to get her attention. She would always reject him to everything he would send her. He tried to get her fired because he didn't like the fact that he was getting rejected. He wanted her to pay. He's trying to get her fired because he feels rejected.he feels rejected because she didnt reply to the letters etc.also because she rejected his gifts.lastly because he was trying to get her attention. he was angry he didn't get a reply Walter is taking his anger out. He has sent her hundreds of letters and she never replies. She dosent show interest in him. He tried ti make her suffer cause he felt like she made him suffer. Walter tried to get the victim fired because he wanted her to focus on him. He was upset that she was more focused on her work than on him. So he tried to get her fired so she could give her attention to only him. Without a job Colleens only priority would be Walter Walter wants all of colleens attention. He will do whatever it takes to get colleens attention. He will even go out of his way to write letters and send colleen packages.

5. Why and how did Walter get in contact with Colleen? Walter contacted Colleen by sending letters and packages. She also received phone calls. Besides that he contacted her at the comic conventions. He did it because he wanted to know her. walter got in contact with colleen by her contact info on the internet. He started sending her letters, packages. He was obsessed with her and wanted to try and get her to like him. Walter came into contact with Colleen because of the comics that she drew. He admired her work and believed that he was in love with her. He contacted her with letters, packages and phone calls to try and recieve her attention. He also sent his friends and mother to approach her as well. He probably found her contact information online. He sent her letters and packages. He sent her over 2,000 letters per year and it happened for about 10 years. He also followed her around her at public events. He admired her comics and he searched for more information about her and started contacting her by any way he was able to contact her. He would call her boss. He would also contact her because he wanted her attention. He found her at a comic book convention. He wanted to have some sort of interaction with her. He could of gotten her number from one of the companies she works for. Walter got contact with colleen by hurassing her.he started sending people to bother her in her conventions. Also he tried to get her fired.lastly he showed up himself at one of the conventions with his mother. he got in contact with her because he liked her and by sending her mail to her house, work and her job He wouldn't do it physically. Walter had friends of his poke her and say "Walter said hi". He also got in contact with his editors. He had his mom beg her to be with her son. Walter wanted to get his victims attention so he would send her packages and letters. By sending her letters Walter felt that they were connecting. T hrough the packages he would also send her drawings he made. By having any type of contact with the victim Walter felt he was having a connection with Colleen. Walter go in contact with colleen all kinds of ways. Walter would call colleens house phone and cell phone all the time. Walter also got in contact with colleen by Writting her letters to her house and sending her mysterious packages. He even went to a comic book convention in a different state just to see her.

6. How would you justify law enforcements decision to not help Colleen? i would justify law enforcements decision to not help colleen because they didnt have enought info on him. Law enforcement didnt have anywhere to start. they didnt know his name, address, or any of his contact imformation.she wasnt gettin phisically threatened so there was nothing they could do about walter. T here was no laws against stalking at the time. Stalking laws weren't up until the 1990's. Colleen's case was in the eighties. T herefore law enforcement could not do anything about it. Law enforcements were not able to help Colleen. T he letters/ packages she recieved did not have a return address. T hey didnt know if Walter was actually his first name and they didnt have lastname. T hey didnt have any info on him & she wasnt physically harmed. We would justify law enforcements decision. T hey had no solid information. T hey also had limited resources. T here wasn't much they could do. Law enforcement weren't able to help colleen because they didn't have enough evidence or information about walter to be able to arrest him. T here were no laws at the time about stalking or obsessing over another person. T hey weren't able to help colleen because walter wasn't breaking any laws. T here was nothing law enforcement was able to do at the time. T he law was unable to help her because of the lack of laws they had about stalking. During the time that this took place law enforcement didn't have any laws for stalking. Law enforcement didnt help her becauae they had no idea how to get him.he had no send back address.he would only sign "Walter"on the letters.lastly becauae she wasnt physically threatened. Back in those years it wasn't a sensitve case being stalked. T here wasnt enough evidence. If this were to happen in the present he would be arrested. T hey needed physical contact. it was justifiable because they had no way to get to him and there was no laws against it I would justify their decision as fair and reasonable. During these times laws were not set out to help verbal harrassment, so the cops couldnt step in. Also law enforcement had no phsical evidence as to who the stalker was. Without any actuall evidence law enforcement had no proof in order to make an arrest Walter was not doing any harm twards her. As long as walter wasnt pyschically harming her the cops could not do anything.

7. What example (evidence) can you find to support why Walter's mother got involved? walters mother probably got involved because of his manipulating skills and the fact she was a alcoholic. He probably told her everything to say to her to convince her to be with him. he probably thought if she heard it from his mom it must be true that he will never hurt her. T hey were desperate. walter tried sending her letters by mail. He even got his friends to help him out. None of his attempts were succesful so mother had to help out. We already know Walter was very manipulative. His mother might have been crazy. Maybe she wanted him out of the house. Maybe she wanted him to find love. Walter's mother got involved because he manipulates people. She smells like alcohol giving proof that she is an alcoholic. He figured that he can easily bribe her. T herefore, she goes to see Colleen. She was probably involved because she realized that, walter never had a girlfriend and was trying to help walter to stalk her. His mother wanted him to get a girlfriend because he never had one. He also probably convinced his mom to help him stalk colleen. Walters mom went up to colleen at the comic book convention and said "my son would never hurt you". Walters mother did get involved. At one of the comic conventions Walters mother was pating the women. Security had to be called to stop her. Law enforcement let her go afterwards. Walters mom got involved because she was scared of walter. In the video you could see how her body langauge showed that she was terriffied. When a persons scared they will do anything for someone. Walter was also convincing so he could of minipulated her into thinking that it was the right thing to do. Walters mother got involved because he convinced her.walter is manipulating. He probably told her lies.also because he was a mommas boy. Walter had his mom beg coleen. Walter's mom must've felt bad for her son. He most likely never had a girlfriend. Walters mom got on her knees ffor coleen. walters mother got involved probably because she was frusturated as well by his son not getting the attention he wanted by her Walter and his mother had an unusual bond. Walter probably reliyed on his mother all through out his life and he grew too attached. He probably has never had any other friend other than his mother.

8. Analyze how Colleen felt before Walter began stalking her and how she feels now. colleen probably felt like it was nothing to worry about when it first started out. But as it progressed her attitude changed from calm to worried and paranoid. She was scared to go to conventions and paranoid to go outside because she didnt know if walter was there. Before this situation she was happy and stressful, after she was traumatized. Before she had nothing to worry about and she was very happy and ejoyed working and going out. After she became traumatized and realized that anything can happen. She is probably appreciative that she is no longer harrassed. Based on what Collen and her family have stated, Colleen was thriving incredibly well before Walter came along. She was doing well in her work and was confident. Once Walter began stalking her, she became insecure and scared. T o this day, Colleen is still scared that Walter will return. Before Walter began, Colleen was happy. She was focused on her career. After, she feels insecure. She might feel like someone else is going to attack. She didn't have to worry about anything and now she's worried about whos around her. Colleen felt happy and proud before Walter stalked her and now she feels insecure. She felt like a free person with no worries just to focus on her comic books. She had no worries and no stress but after she was traumatized. Collen was a confident girl who illustrated comics. But now even now that the stalikg has stopped she still feel that he is out there still watching her. Before the stalking she was happy with her life. Colleens carrer was moving ahead and she was always working on her comics. After the stalking she felt traumatized. Now she was left with worry that she could be a target again. Colleen felt fine then traumatized.she felt fine because her carreer was going well.after 10 years of stalking she could get much off her shoulders.also she was scared it could happen again. Colleen before she was stalked she felt free. Now colleen feels paranoid. She doesn't walking alone. She doesn't trust anyone. colleen was happy and she thought everything was perfect after she still feels afraid that he could be back Colleen was a confident women with nothing to worry about. Although walter has stopped stalking her she is always aware of her surroundings and always looks over her shoulder in fear that he may stalk her again.

9. Examine the proof you have that she was worried about her stalker? she was worried about the stalker because he kept sending he weired letters and random packages. she was worried because she didnt want to go to te convention alone so her mom came and brought her tazer. she was also afraid that walter would end up hurting her. Colleen was worried about her stalker because it started affecting her in her work and in her personal life. It affected her work because she couldn't concentrate and it showed in her work. It also affected her personal life because she couldn't sleep or leave her home. She was worried about what would happen. Walter was capable of doing anything to harm her. So when she went to events, she brought her mother. Also because her mother was so morried, she brought a tazer for protection. Colleen had her father check the packages. She took a tazer to the convention. Her facial expressions were not calm. She would be scared everytime she received a new letter. She had her mother go with her to thevcomic book convention with a tazer. She would always look around when she would go outside. She would also get worried to go to conventions. She was afraid that Walter would hurt her and affect her career. She was worried about her stalker because she put a hold on her carrer. After the stalking she stopped working on her comics. She also always contimplated on if to go to the conventions or not. Due to all her worry her mother even began carrying a tazor. Her mom was indeed worried about her. She would accompany her to comic events. She would be carrying a tazer at all times when she was with her daughter. She was wprrued about her stalker because of what he was capable of doing.he kept sending her packages.he tried.to get her fired.lastly he would send peope to bug her at her conventions. She was scared he would take the stalking to another level.she thought he would pyschically try to harm her. She thought he would harm her because he wrote letters to her that described the psychical things he would do to her if they ever met. Colleen was really worried about walter. She had her mom bring a tazor to her comic book convention. She had a security with her. She told her editors what was going on. she was scared for her life and stopped doing stuff she would usually do always lived in fear

10. Elaborate, based on the facts, as to what kind of stalker Walter is and why. the kind of stalker walter is a harrassment stalker. sending her letter repeatedly and unwanted gifts. he followed her to the convention and harrased her there. sending his friends to poke her constantly. Walter is a love obsession stalker. He believes that he's in love with her. He also is convinced she will eventually love him back. He was a Delusional fixation stalker. He fantasized about them bein together. He was incoherent and constantly send her gifts, even though she didnt respond. Walter is a Delusional Fixation Stalker. He believes Colleen will love her someday. He is not vey dangerous. Most stalkers are not like him. He was a Mullen and pathe typology incompetent stalker. He's a obbsesive stalker because he was very obsessed with colleen. He was a who probably seeks attention from women. Walter is a obsessive, persistent, and compulsive stalker. Walter is a love obsessional delusional and sadistic stalker. Walter is living out a fantasy in his head that colleen loves him back. He is sadistic because he went through all the trouble of going acorss the states to see colleen. Walter is a boone and Sheridan stalker. T hese stalkers tend to pray on their victims. T hey also become emotionally invested. Walter showed his communication and love through love and threats. T hese stalkers are hard to stop, which is how Walter was. Walter is a Zonas T ypology stalker. He had a major obsession for her. He wanted her really bad. Walter is a love obssional stalker. He was this kind of stalker because he stalked her for years.also he would send her gifts.lastly because he thought she would eventually love him. Walter was Mullen & Patge T ypology incompetent. In the ten years he never made physical contact with her. He was really limited. He had his friends do the work fir him. He's a very controlling and very obbsesive stalker because of the unwanted letters gifts and knowing where she was at

11. How did the Staker develop as time went on? the stalker developed as time went on by getting more agressive and fustrated. He started to feel more rejected as she didnt give him the time of day. He eventually started showing up in person to see her Walter developed as time went on. His level of communication escalated. He started sending packages and sending his friends to talk to her. He also sent his mother to approach her. He became more obsessive as time went on. It started with just letters, then packages/ gifts, phone calls, then he started showing up to her events. He even started to turn violent. Walter became more aggressive. He wanted to see her in real life. He sent more and more packages. He had his friends poke her at the comic conventions. He became more impatient and more aggressive. As time went on he would get more obsessive with her. He would also become more persistent frustrated. He became more obsessed with colleen and love her even more. T he stalker developed as time went on by showing up in person. Walter went to the convention that Colleen was at. Before the stalking Walter would only send packages and letters. However in time he made his presense clear to his victim. As time past he became more persistent. At first he sent letters, then packages. T hen it came to having his friends scarring her. T hen his mother was helping him. T he stalker became more agressive as time went on.he started sending her gifts.also he tried to get her fired.lastly he showed up to her convention. Walter became more angry. She never replied to all his letters. He sent her hundreds of letters. He tried getting her to fet with him but she rejected him. first letters, gifts, calls, harrasement at her job going to her book signings having people approach her then his mom and him

12. What ideas justify why Walter was so persistant and obsessed with Colleen for a little over 10 years? Walter thought that Colleen would fall in love with him over the years. He believed that she was going to love him because of everything he did for her. Walter was delusional. He had something to admire, her work! As she continued with her work, he had something to admire. He still loved her. Because he was into comic books and she was a comic book writer. Walter thought colleen would fall in love with him over the years. She kept on making more comic books over the years and he felt that they were for him. He really liked comic books and colleen most likely became his crush. he became more obssesed with her. As the years went on he sent her more gifts such as packages and letters that had deep feeling about her in them. Walter became obssed with Colleen because of their "connection." He felt that throught their love of comics they had a connection. When he would read her comics he felt close to her. He also was able to relate to her drawings. He was obsessed with collen for a little over 10 years because he wanted her.walter thought she loved him.he also had a crush on her.lastly he thought the picturea she drew were for him. He was so obsessed with her, he would send letters and packages. Have his friends say hi. And last he would have his mom talk to her. he was probably persistant because with every letter and gift he sent her he fell in love with her more and he felt as if she was to He was really obsessed with Colleen. Collen was a comic book writer. Walter loved comic books. He probably thought she was perfect for him.

13. What would the police need in order to arrest Walter? T hey would need evidence of who it was. Walter never left a return address. He never touched her. He never gave any evidence of who he was. Evidence that walter is actually stalking colleen. Police would need accurate information that walter was harassing her. For walter to physically assault colleen. Some kind of probable cause such as trespassing, vandalism, or assault. Some kind of reasonable cause that walter was putting colleen in fear for her life. In order to arrest Walter he would have to physically harm Colleen. In those days the police couldnt arrest someone unless there was phaical assult. If Walter harmed Colleen the police would have to step in. Assult would be the main cause for Walters arrest. T he police would need information.t hey would need evidence of him threatening her.also a return adress.lastly a law because there wasnt a law back then. T he police would need him to be violent. Have him trying to physically harm her. a law prohibiting it to go to a certain limit Walter would need to do just a little to get a arrested. He needs to make physical contact. Collen should get all the letter he has sent ger and put a restraining order.

14. Based on the laws of Stalking (at the time) how would you improve these laws? I would make stalking illegal. Harassment would not be allowed. I would make some privacy laws. Colleen would be happy. I would keep track if how many times stalkers would try to contact their victims. People harassing another person should be penalized. T hese laws should be improved by taking into consideration what the victim is going through and make a report of it. I would also improve them by not allowing harassment under any circumstances. Verbal harrassment would be a reason for arrest. Phone calls or letters could be used as evidence. If a person didnt want anything to do with a person, and the other person was presistant they should be arrested. I would improve these laws by by adding certain stuff. First evidence.not just any evidence,it would have to be evidence of harassment. Lastly if you have these evidences it would be enough to give the stalker a probation. Have stalking laws enforced and more serious. You can't send unmarked packages. You can get help from law enforcement if you fell like your endangered from this person. T he laws would be more strict for these cases. Have I wouldn't need physical contact. With hundreds of letters would be enough. Having his friends poke her is also enough. it being stricter and more detailed
