3 Miguel and Lana played at the park every day. Their father liked to read there, too. Miguel and Lana played ball in the park. their father Lana Miguel 2

4 Miguel and Lana heard about plans to build a garage on the park. Then one day, Miguel heard some terrible news. The city wanted to build a garage where the park was! We have to figure out how to save our park! Miguel told Lana.

5 Let s make posters! said Lana. If other people find out what s going on, they will want to help save the park, too. That s a great idea. But we don t have any money to buy the art supplies, said Miguel. Maybe we can raise the money! said Lana. Lana and Miguel planned to make posters.

6 customers Miguel and Lana raised money from customers. Miguel and Lana asked customers at Lo-Hi Foods for help. People were happy to give money. They wanted to save the park, too. 5

7 The kids were able to raise enough money to buy art supplies. They made lots of posters. Their parents helped them put the posters up all around the city. The children made posters and put them up in the city.

8 poster The mayor saw one of the posters. Soon after the posters went up, the whole city knew the news. Everyone was talking about the park. No one wanted to see a garage go up in its place. The mayor called a big meeting. 7

9 Miguel and Lana s father called the TV news. He told a reporter about the meeting with the mayor. The reporter said she would go to the meeting. She would tell about it on the evening news. father Miguel and Lana s father called a reporter. reporter 8

10 meeting the mayor A woman stood up at the meeting. Hundreds of people showed up for the meeting with the mayor. Please help save our park! Miguel and Lana told the crowd. Then a woman stood up. I own a big empty lot, she said. The garage can go there. Then we can keep the park just as it is! Everyone cheered. 9

11 That night, Lana and Miguel watched the news. They felt smiles spreading on their faces as they watched. The reporter said the park was saved! Then she said the mayor gave the park a new name. It would be called Lana Miguel Park. Miguel and Lana watched the news with their father. 10
