2 Background & context Eminem, also known as Marshal and slim shady was born in October 17, Formally known by many as Eminem (stylized EMINƎM) is an American rapper, record producer and actor staring in movies such as 8 mile, Shady Talez, Pauly Shore Is Dead and Eminem: E. Throughout his career he s been given the title of best selling artist in 2000 within the united states, with five number one singles on the Billboard Hot 100. Eminem has produced multiple music videos over the years, staring out under the name Slim shady he began his career as a rapper in a rap band D12. He s been making music ever since 1988 currently at the age of 44. He s a father to three children of a mother he has been married to and divorced. Eminem has produced music videos to go alongside his music for most of his singles with hits such as The real slim shady, Mockingbird and Lose yourself.

3 Rap. Genre Eminem is know to be the rap king being praised by big actors such as Riana, little wayne, Dr.Dre 2pac and many others. He became associated with rap through his group D12. Rap is, in short, singing with a rhythm. The vocalization of words is made in a rhythmic manner resembling rhyming more than singing due to the short sentences being preferred over stretched words. Rap is a part of the Hip-Hop genre. When asking a regular person about the rap genre the main rappers that are mentioned will be of black decent, this fact stereotyped the rap genre as black music, produced, sang, and listened to by the black ethnicity.

4 Narrative Eminem s songs all follow a narrative, where todays pop music may be sang about happy days, problems or random things such as Donald Trump, Eminem (Slim shady) follows narratives, Mocking Bird, Till I Collapse, Not Afraid alongside many other singles all follow the story through his life, Mocking bird focuses of his daughters, his divorce and his beginning as a solo artist, the song Not Afraid was a song about his struggle with the music industry, loss of friends and his overall current struggle.

5 Representation Eminem has been represented in a bad light for the majority of his career, being the only white rapper amongst the sea of black rappers was a stressful time for him with media coverage on everything he did, his life, and his situation weather being divorced, drug addiction or depression. He has however been represented in the best of ways by many rappers, singers and musicians. The rapper 5O cent has shown respect for Eminem in interviews and overall talks.

6 Industry Eminem/Slim shady produces and directs his own music videos by creating the scenes as well as providing the story. He creates his music videos by basing them on his song, he s very involved in the production, sets, costumes and other jobs through the music video. 7 Eminem and slim shady has been using marketing such as merchandise, game trailers, and things such as day to day products with cups and bowls. He has been well know for giving his music to videogame trailers and announcements most commonly related to COD (Call of duty) Marketing

8 Target audience Eminem has a wide audience range from teens to adults, Eminem s music resonates with both teens that find themselves in hard situations such as a broken house, parental divorce, drug abuse, harassment and more, whereas adults resonate with Eminem s life through his divorces and lawsuits which is what they themselves might be going through.

9 Audience interaction Eminem is a active star reaching out to his fans on occasions, speaking to individuals and in his early stages he used to give out money, food and shelter to the needed, he is still involved in many charities as well as many fan meet ups. 10 Audience positioning Eminem is seen as a role model for some, a man that came from nothing to being a superstar and one of the most looked upon rappers. He comes from a split, poor family full of alcohol abuse and drugs, he became a world know superstar with songs that show his life to other seeing him more of a role model and a regular guy than a different from us person.

12 Media debates Eminem has been a subject of debate ever since the beginning, being the only white rapper of his time, writing songs about himself, his mind and his life during a time of rapping about money, women and sex.
