1 Summer Assignment International Baccalaureate Higher Level Riverwood International Charter School Over the summer you will be expected to do some work that will help you prepare for your IB submissions for next school year. Below is the list expectations. Compose an Artist Analysis: Examine the work of 2 artists that you find interesting. These two artists should be from different time periods and from different cultures. Analyze their work, compare and contrast their work and show/explain how their work has impacted your own work. (Use the Artist Analysis Template provided.) Create Two Quality Works of Art: Create two of your own separate works/compositions that are influenced by each selected artist. It could be the style, meaning, subject, intent, etc., or a combination of any of these that impact or inspire your own pieces. These should not be copies of the artist s work, but should be your own original work that has some connection to each artist. For each composition: the work must be a minimum size of 12 x16 the work should show strong compositional development the work should show strong technical and/or proportional skill the work should show strong value/contrast development the work should show time investment in its depth and fullness All summer work will be DUE the 2 nd class meeting following the summer break. ******************************************************************************************************************************

2 Artist Analysis Template Complete an Artist Analysis reflecting your exploration, research and investigation of two artists and their influence on your own work. These two artists should be from different time periods and from different cultures. Avoid selecting artists who are overtly famous. Your Artist Analysis should be type written using subject specific language with 12pt Arial Font style. 3 ARTIST ANALYSIS EVALUATION CRITERIA Give a rating for each criteria of the Artist Analysis between 5 and 0 or 10 and 0. (5 or 10 being the strongest, 0 being the weakest) Tally each rating write your overall score with a maximum of 50 possible. Format, Images and Presentation Layout and design follows the template and is clearly presented in an interesting manner. Analysis of Formal Qualities Work identifies and analyses formal qualities from at least 2 cultural origins from effective, informed and reliable sources. Interpretation of Function and Purpose Work demonstrates appropriate interpretation of the function and purpose of selected pieces within the cultural context in which they were created. Evaluation of Cultural Significance Work demonstrates consistently informed and appropriate evaluation of t the conceptual and cultural significance of selected work within the context in which they were created. Making Comparisons and Connections Between the Artists and their Work Work demonstrates the critical analysis of the connections, similarities and difference between selected pieces. Work is logical and Coherent, showing a thorough of a thorough understanding of how the pieces compare.
