3 Dear Parent, Summer vacations can be immensely beneficial for a child provided they are used judiciously and for the same we need the support of parent to closely monitor the child and be involved with them throughout. Cartoon watching is fun. This is the age wherein they enjoy the same. But make it a good learning experience. Just change the language from Hindi to English. Pick words from it repeat the same words over and over again. Try to add one word in the child s vocabulary daily. Indulge in healthy communication it can be on global warming, pollution, moral values, importance of being disciplined, etc. Write at least a page daily of cursive hand writing. The same can be an extract from newspaper. If not possible to go out of station do take child to local places and tell him/her to write a travelogue sort of piece. Say visit to Town Park, mall, India gate, any local market this is just to improve their expression while writing and their retrospection skills. Take child for fine dining at least twice. Let them explore different cuisine and encourage them to place an order and clear the query regarding their order. Authentic ingredients with their correct pronunciation can be very beneficial Go for long walks early in the morning. Let them have a feel of nature before the sun is out. The whiff of fresh air, the sounds of birds. Connect with nature makes them a way creative in their approach. Take good care of your child s health and hygiene. Avoid heavy and oily food and increase intake of fresh fruits and water to keep your child well hydrated and energetic. Use the given activities as an opportunity to spend quality time together. Let your child take the lead and use his/ her imagination, creativity and knowledge to do the assigned task. The role of the parent is to be a facilitator and guide to steer the child in the right direction. He will find his own destination.

4 MATHEMATICS FAN MULTIPLES Learning objectives : To encourage learning of number tables. To give an introduction to the concept of multiples. Material Required : A3 size pastel sheet, ice-cream sticks, glue, decoration material. Instructions :- Take an A3 size pastel sheet and make a Chinese fan by paper folding. Take any 2-digit number and write its multiples in the folds of the fan. (You can refer to the link : Create your favourite animal/bird using plane shapes (2D shapes) on A3 size sheet Instructions : Take different cut-outs of plane shapes, for e.g. square, rectangle, circles etc. using coloured pastel sheet or fluorescent sheet. Now using the above cut-outs, create any animal/bird of your choice. Paste the cut-outs on an A3 size pastel sheet. The picture of your favourite animal/bird is ready. Learn and write tables from 2 to 20 in your Maths notebook. Also make a pocket diary in your hand writing.

5 ENGLISH Read Oliver Twist and write about the challenges Oliver faced throughout life till he got the dignified life in beautiful handwriting. Watch documentaries on Kandahar hijack in 1999, Nepal earthquake on you tube (National Geographic) and write a paragraph on them giving all the details you noticed. SOCIAL STUDIES Make a Poster on an A4 size sheet on the topic A World without Water. Create a picture booklet on Water Conservation Instructions: a) On an A4 size sheet write 5-6 points related to Water Conservation. Draw or paste pictures along with it. b) Take another sheet and make an attractive cover page on the topic. c) The cover page is to be divided and cut into small slit folds which can be stuck and opened to read the points underneath. You can refer to the pictures given below.

6 SUMMER VACATIONS. Vacation is all about visiting our favourite destination, enjoying, exploring and learning new things. So, prepare a collage on an A3 coloured sheet on any holiday destination you would like to visit or you have visited during your summer vacations. HINT-location, food, dance and music, flora and fauna, regional language, famous historical sites. LEARN ABOUT OUR HERITAGE. Go for an Educational visit to places like National Science Museum, Science Museum, Rail Museum, Bal Bhawan, Craft Museum. To make kids aware of their surroundings, tell them to watch various informative T.V. Channels like Discovery, National Geographic, History, TV 18 etc. GENERAL SCIENCE

7 Making a Herbarium A herbarium is a collection of dried and pressed plants or leaves. For hundreds of years scientists and plant lovers have preserved dried plants for study in herbariums. Instructions : Collect ten leaves of different plants. Clean off any dirt or bugs from the plant. Dry all the leaves by placing them in between the pages. You can dry all the leaves in the same book by spacing them several pages apart. Set it aside for 8-10 days to let the leaves dry. Once the leaves are dry, you are ready to compile your herbarium pages. Using narrow pieces of tape, secure each leaf on an A4 size pastel sheet. Write the following details of each leaf- a ) Name of the plant b) Does the plant have any nutritional or medicinal qualities? Compile all the pages and make a folder. Also decorate the folder. Reference : Grow any baby plant from a seed in a small pot. Nurture it and water it everyday. Observe it s daily growth and write a report in your science

9 ART on Play with shapes this summer and prepare beautiful Warli Painting an A4 size sheet. PHYSICAL EDUCATION Write a short note on an A4 size pastel sheet :- a) your favourite sport b) favourite sports person Do Halasana and Tadasana regularly during the vacations. Learn any three new coordinative exercises. For eg. Zigzag running, rope skipping, stepping up and down on stair case.

10 COMPUTER ALL ABOUT ME So this summer you have a chance to pen down about the place you visited in summer vacation. You have to write in word pad using ARIAL FONT and FONT SIZE 14.
