5 Cleo Barnett 1 A SPACE TO BE Mixed Media Cleo has created a space of contemplation in this installation, inviting the public s engagement. Explore the exhibit, then sit down and pore over a selection of readings that inspire the artists work. Become part of it by drawing or writing what spurs the nature of your mind in one of our blank books. Handmade and vintage accoutrements make up the space, a welcome contrast to the concrete surrounds. Each is individually driven on their own path of discovery, survival and search for sanity. Today we come together collectively, to share what comes from within, out through the fingertips and into material form. Art is an avenue to make sense of the insanity of the modern world and this exhibit hopes to inspire that in those who are touched by it.

6 Flox 2 THE ART OF JUST BEING Spray Paint & Stencils on Wood 6 x 2.8 Meters A truly successful urban make up is one that I believe, incorporates the natural world, and pays homage to it s environment. Ships, containers, loading docks, people, buildings and infrastructure dominate this commercial urban space, so it is with intent that this artwork pacify and summon these notions of nature, within such a defying, contrasting context. This collaborative installation developed from a discussion, a common curiosity.

7 lane park + Paris Kirby 3 UNTITLED Acrylic on Wood Lane and Paris are currently investigating installation works conversing within interior spaces. Performing an open reading, enticing audiences. With Lane s sculptural piece & Paris s paintings, they began communicating with different aesthetical approaches; this quickly amalgamated into a cohesive arrangement of work.

8 Nigel Roberts 4 UNTITLED 12 x 2.8 Meters Spray Paint Having been assigned the largest space on the exhibit, combined with his passion for sign writing, Nigel decided on a text-based mural accented by his signature photorealistic imagery. Congealing elements of graffiti and fine art, Nigel s brand of street art brings the natural world in urban environments. The mural s typography is over-the-top, nostalgic, jump-off-the-wall 3D, a welcome contrast to the muted, lifelike image adjacent.

9 Tiffany Singh 5 DON T MISS ALL THE BEAUTIFUL COLORS OF THE RAINBOW LOOKING FOR THAT POT OF GOLD. Mixed Media Don t Miss All The Beautiful Colours Of The Rainbows Looking For That Pot Of Gold was conceived through a desire to extend the idea of art works that examine sacred and healing spaces beyond the gallery and into sites that require balancing. Inviting meditation between artwork and audience with instruments denoting spiritual space. Instruments believed to have a role in healing, through clearing and creating energy around the chosen structures or sites through subtle vibration fields.

10 Matt Dowman 6 AN END HAS A START 120 x 120cm Mixed media on board A PLAY FOR TODAY 76 x 76cm mixed media on canvas, Matts work investigates the way we receive and view imagery figuration/ abstraction, natural/synthetic, metaphysical/physical, global/local. He uses these pairings to create tension within his work. His process allows chance to play a role in both developing ideas and in the physical making of the work, allowing the work to evolve in ways which aren t pre determined.

11 Robert George 7 THE EMBRACE OF NIGHT (GO TO SLEEP) 232 x 58cm print Video + Photography A five minute looped video installation that attempts to describe our interior landscape. A place where people naturally blend their busy waking lives with their emotions and ideas to create a narrative that is completely unique to them, and yet universal to us all. This is the third video piece that Robert George has had the privilege to collaborate with installation artist Tiffany Singh. Performances by Tiffany Singh, Evotia-Rose Araiti, Tom Back and Cailan Paitai. Audio by Gareth van Niekerk.

12 Helen Clegg 8 ELEMENTAL 232 x 85cm I MMERSE 77 x 84.5cm INHALE 77 x 84.5cm Photography Helen s work seeks to visually bridge one s perception of environment, with one s experience of it. Individual photographic installations with the figure immersed in natural environments aim to bring out sense memories within the viewer. The juxtaposition between human and nature in art is a dynamic that continually needs exploring, especially in today s exponentially growing cities.

13 Laura Forest 9 A PERHAPS HAND 232 x 85cm THE SKY WAS 77 x 84.5cm Photography AS IS THE SEA MARVELLOUS Video Two dancers were taken to Karekare beach and directed to respond to one another in gendered stereotypes that can inhibit our experience and expression of self. This short excerpt from their improvised choreography is a contextual behind the scenes piece to Laura s black and white photographic series. Music: Turning of the Tides by Claire Cowan Dancers - Annabel Harrison & Matt Gibbons I wanted to produce images that hold dynamic movement, vastness of space, and enigmatic contrast in light. The titles to my works are direct references poetry by e e cummings, a poet who always inspires me to think differently about the way I see and interpret my self. I wanted to create dramatic scenes that invite curiosity and lingering contemplation. This is the first moving image work I have made, as I wanted to challenge myself in a new medium.

14 CHEVELLE SANDS 10 UNTITLED Video The intent with this artwork is that beauty is viewed in common objects and ideas, like these decaying petals. As time passes, the water starts out slow but as the end nears it gets faster until time is up and has stopped. Beauty and decay naturally go hand in hand together in life, something too often forgotten.

15 Meghan Geliza 11 FLOURISH II 1.2 x 1.2 metres Acrylic on Wood The Universe, in all of its infinite manifestations, tell the same story, hold the same structure, have similar forces that bind it. Meghan is currently exploring concepts of oneness, abundance and connection; looking at inherent patterns within nature as a way to express humans inherent connection and fundamental similarities with each other. Flourishing, primordial, animated. The fragments and the wholeness of life--and of ourselves, is being explored in this piece.

16 Lucy Mulholland + Natalie Maria Choreographers: Lucy-Mary Mulholland & Natalie Maria Performers: Lucy-Mary Mulholland & Natalie Marie There is a difference between an escape and a retreat.. Both create a feeling of peace or happiness. In one state you miss out on the present moment you are living in. In the other you are still here. We do not need the idyllic location, the perfect scene or sweet melody to find peace. We can find it constantly in ourselves and in the imperfection around us. When life is hard we escape into other people s stories to avoid suffering. If we can accept our own story for what it is then we have a retreat reserved for us always. A retreat into our own nature.
