That is why you are provided with a plethora of opportunities; grab the opportunities and realize you re potential. A bright future is awaiting you. For your generation, even the sky is not the limit. Reach out to the unreachable and make your parents, teachers, society and nation proud. 9 ANNUAL REPORT This annual report is a comprehensive report on a Vidyalaya's activities throughout the preceding year. Annual reports of an institution are intended to give its share-holders parents, students and the management information about the Vidyalaya's activities and academic and co-curricular performance. A recap of a year well invested in building the future generation goes a long way in enthusing us to work more fruitfully for the next year. It is a day of basking in accolades actualized and bouquets garnered. And for me to present this in front of this august gathering is truly a humbling experience and honour. Kendriya Vidyalaya Sangathan has trained its focus in pursuit of excellence and in setting the pace in the field of school education. It does this by promoting experimentation and innovations in education. And the crowning point is: it develops the spirit of national integration and creates a sense of "Indianness" among children. Keeping these lofty ideals each Vidyalaya earnestly strives its best to reach greater heights and KV No.I, Vasco is no exception to this rule. For us: Sky is the limit. Each year we try to scale greater heights. The academic result of an educational institute is the standard measurement of its success. Academic results: I am glad to bring you the results of two successful years for the previous annual day was celebrated in April 2014 and the results declared after it. In the field of academics Kendriya Vidyalaya No 1, Vasco has traditionally excelled for it not only produced quantitative result but also produced exceptional quality result.the most reliable way to measure the trustworthiness of an academic institute in glancing at the board results.

MY WONDERFUL TEACHER : SANGEETA MA'AM She didn't teach me at school but at her house. She was the wonderful teacher that came in my life. When I was in class in class Vth,I used to go to her house, she used to teach me and my friends, to draw.i will never forget her because she helped me in every way. She used to take drawing classes and tuition for different age groups at the same time. Once I had to collect different kinds of cloth pieces for a project, she gave me the cloth pieces happily from her home. Many a times she gave me ideas for drawing competitions. She treated everyone equally.we had no problem to share our thoughts with her. She appreciated us.if she wouldn't be there in my life,i could not have been good at drawing. In today's date I can draw anything easily. "Thank you Ma'am for your love and support ' AMBIKA SHARMA CLASS IXC

SAVE NATURE The man who hurt the nature Is heartless and soulless. He will regret later Then our earth becomes resource less. No manmade wonders can replace it Because nature is a gift of god Paradise is a myth But nature is real and its magic is untold. From the masculine mountains To the feminine rivers Everything must be maintained Or else, we will lose our pretty flowers. By: Rugma Sunil XB

CLOSE ENCOUNTER (FICTION) People often say that there are no such things as ghosts but there are a few who can testify for their existence. Regrettably I have joined that elite group recently. My paranormal experience was rebuffed by many; still I shall present it before you all. It was a summer day ideal for camping out; however my headache made me unfits for such an excursion so instead of sticking along with my family I decided to go along with my uncle and aunt to their farmhouse. For those who don t know my uncle and aunt, they are very kind souls but have had a very tragic past. They suffered their biggest loss when their only daughter committed suicide, not because she was fed up with life but because she was not permitted to marry the love of her life. I have always pitied my uncle and aunt and have never been able to say no to them. So, I packed my stuff and tagged along with them. After a long drive when I finally reached the farmhouse I was immediately struck and impressed by the scenic beauty around. I also quickly realised that the place was quite lonely and isolated. But the amazing panorama made up for the sombre atmosphere. Accordingly I pushed aside my aspersions and entered with a cheerful spirit. I can t say that I didn t enjoy myself but there was constantly nagging at the back of my mind which some may call a premonition. The weather as if in unison with my thoughts began to deteriorate by the evening. Dark clouds began to cover up the sun prior to the sunset and the wind grew violent. I snuggled on the sofa with a mug of cocoa and passed my time till it was time for dinner. We had a rather melancholy meal, wished each other good night and retired to

our rooms. I don t remember having slept so quickly in my entire life. When I abruptly woke up in between, I was perspiring profusely and my entire body felt heavy. I managed to get down for a glass of water when suddenly the sound of footsteps caught my attention. I hastened and managed to catch a glimpse of heels. I called out to her thinking she was my aunt. However she didn t seem to listen or respond, so I simply followed her. Her footsteps led me to the attic. I climbed up feeling eerie. A chill sprang across my spine and I realised that the adjacent window was open. I proceeded to close it when suddenly a flash of thunder stopped me. In the faint light I made out the outline of a noose hanging from the ceiling. I felt rooted to the spot as my cousin s horrible ordeal flashed past my mind. I turned around to leave but instead saw my cousin s body hanging limply in front of me. I stepped back in horror and fell through the trapdoor and came crashing down. I don t remember what happened next but may last recollection placed me on a bed with a thermometer in my mouth. VIVEK RATN XII B

DEMOCRACY IN INDIA. India is the largest democratic country in the world. Democracy is defined as a government of the people, by the people and for the people. It is considered the finest form of government in which every individual participates consciously and in which the people remain the sovereign power determining their destiny. So, in democracy the people are the ultimate source of power and its success and failure depend on their wisdom, consciousness and vigilance. It is not possible for all the people in a big country like India to participate in the government. This is why they are required to exercise their franchise and elect their representatives at regular intervals. These representatives from the parliament legislate and form responsible government. Such governments can be either unitary or federal. In India we have the federal form having both a government at the centre responsible to the parliament and governments in the states elected and equally responsible to their legislative assemblies. But the people who participate in the election of their representatives must be educated enough to see what is good for them and who will be the right people to represent them. India became free only in 1947 after many years of colonial rule. In the following years India had her constitution that declared India as a democratic federal republic. The first democratic election on the basis of universal adult franchise was held in But during that election the people of India did not really have the necessary consciousness to understand democracy. They did not have the education to choose between good and evil. More than eighty per cent of these people were victims of age-old poverty, ignorance and superstitions. Many of them did not even understand the difference between the British and the new rulers. So, election for these Indian people was not a democratic process, it was like festival. Even today, after so many years, the people in India are not very much different, for many of them are illiterates and poverty too is still there with all its sickening and demoralizing effects. This is why

Indian democracy has failed so far to bring about the desired changes and to attain the goal of regeneration. It is only natural that in the absence of conscious resistance and checks even elected representatives will be tempted to wield unbridled power, subjecting the will of the majority to the ambition of the minority. Taking advantage of the ignorance and poverty of the electorate the ambitious and the impostors are bound to worm their way through the crowds of gullible and get them elected. If, when they are elected, their electors go to sleep, they may form the government of the minority, wielding autocratic power and trampling underfoot the fundamental rights of the people. Unless there are safeguards against misuse of power and usurpation of people s authority, the people would be only helpless spectators and prisoners in their own cells, while democracy will remain a myth and a pipe dream. 43 My School Will Be The School Of My Dreams If The Mind Is Without Fear And The Head Is Held High... true freedom is where the mind is without fear and the head is held high. These are some of the oft quoted lines of Rabindranath Tagore from his world renowned collection of poems, Gitanjali. The name of Rabindranath Tagore stirs up thoughts of his ideal schooling system, at Shantiniketan. As a boy Rabindranath Tagore never enjoyed his schooling experience. Hence upon growing up he envisioned such an ideal schooling system that it enticed students from all across the world. If we contrast the present schools with Shantiniketan, the differences will be truly amusing. Speaking of the school of my dreams I believe that the delicate thought processes which students nurture cannot be moulded in the right manner unless their minds are not entrapped within the dense mist of fear. This mist does not conform to any one shape it may take the form of a teacher's cane or the fear to fail. The teachers of my dream school will not encourage their students to ape the ideologies of others even if they are apt but will instill a feeling in them that it doesn't matter who you are but what you do is what defines you. My school will be a symbiosis of teachers and students wherein the student feels and realizes his role and does not hesitate to voice his thoughts. My school will be the abode of love and compassion wherein the mistakes of students are not reprimanded but corrected with love and affection. My teachers will strive to earn respect in the eyes of their students and not expect it from students as a compulsion or their duty. Franklin D. Rooselvet has once famously remarked that all we have to fear is fear itself. it is true that fear has the strength to manipulate and distort, but it is also well acclaimed that there is no true courage without fear. My students will fear failing their teachers and not punishment.

Going down my memory lane, my school days have not exactly been a cakewalk! I have faced punishment; there have been times wherein I have had to meet the principal of my institution. I have trembled with fear before my teacher for not completing my homework and the list will extend incessantly. As I look back and join the dots I have become aware of the impact it has had on my personality. Today I fear teachers and do my work sincerely even if that means I have to stay awake till 2o' clock in the morning! Some will say that my sincerity is a consequence of my fear, hence it is essential. But I would like to ask them that what is the use of a man who knows the price of everything but the value of nothing. I know that I will be punished if I do not complete my homework but then I am neglecting the ill effects the strain may have upon my health. This will be the essence of my school. It will not promote the sense of terror in the minds of students but will highlight the importance of that task. Only then will they in the truest sense be educated. I am aware of the saying that one man's meat is another man's poison, not every student shall be benefited by this ideology but we can never be too sure of jumping to conclusions without testing it with reality. I am patient; I await the advent of glorious change and am willing to pay the price, for no sacrifice is too great for so magnificent a cause. And for those sour grapes who are still not satisfied I can only say that When the dream is unquenchable, quitting becomes unthinkable and success becomes inevitable. MAST.VIVEK RATN Class X B

STUDENT LIFE The student life is the most important period of our life. Our future hopes depend upon it. At this time our mind is like clay. Clay is a very soft thing. The potter makes various things with this clay. Like clay, our mind also can be shaped in different ways. If the pots etc. are once made by the potter, their shapes cannot be changed. Similarly* if our character is once formed in one way, it cannot be changed easily. If we receive good training in our student life, we shall be good citizens in our future life. If, on the other hand, we do not receive good training, we shall not be good men in future. We should, therefore, be very careful. We must take care so that we may receive good training in our student life.student life is the golden period of one's life. It is a period when one is free from all the worries and anxieties of life. There is fun and joy. There are no responsibilities and no burdens. Life is a long stretch of joy and excitement.the student life is the best part of a man's life. At this time our main work is to read and play. We should not think of anything else. When we are students, we are free from cares and anxieties. Our heart is very soft. Our mind is very simple. We pass our time very happily. But if we do not perform our duty, we shall not be happy in future. Hence we must do our duty. We shall then be happy and prosperous in our future life.source of joy to the student are the games, picnics and excursions. Outdoor games like hockey and cricket fill him with joy. Student life is very important in our life. Preeti XII A

THE HAUNTED HOUSE Next to the church in our town, there is an old house which is famous for its large number of ghosts. The present owner of the house says that it is difficult to keep servants because the ghosts frighten them. Many people have seen the ghost of the previous owner. He was a farmer who committed suicide by hanging himself from the gatehouse, and he often appears in the garden wearing old working clothes. Another ghost is an 18th century priest who used to kill visitors while they were asleep in their beds holding a knife. The ghost of a servant sometimes walks along the dark corridors of the house. He murdered the master of the house, but nobody knows why. But perhaps the most frightening story is of a young man who grew up in the house and then became a sailor. While he was at sea, he killed a boy, and then went mad. When he returned to the town, they locked him in a room at the back of the house. He never left the room again, and died there several years later. On some nights, when the moon is full, you can hear him screaming and banging on the door of the room. 48 MY SCHOOL IS THE SCHOOL OF MY DREAMS BECAUSE IT HELPS ME TO VALUE MYSELF & OTHERS. I am very grateful to my parents because without them I wouldn t have been able to study in the school of my dreams. According to me my school is the best, and when I say ''the best'' I really mean it. And do you know what makes my school the best, my teachers, my classmates, my loving principal.. I like everything about my school, but the thing I like the most is it teaches me to value myself and others. One such incident that changed my attitude towards me and others is. TRING!!!!! TRING!!!! It was my alarm. Every-time the sound of the alarm used to irritate me. But today it irritated me more. Today I was going to a new school, KENDRIYA VIDYALAYA NO.1 VASCO. The name of the school send shiver down my spine. For seven years I had studied in Loreto Convent, Delhi. And now suddenly I was shifted to KV 1, Goa. Not that I had good friends in Delhi that I would miss, but something inside me kept telling me that this school is going to be different. And that obviously made me scared. Not wanting to get late for school I went to get ready. Goa was new to me. And the people over here were like aliens to me, I don't mean it by appearance, I mean it by behavior.(no offense meant) I spent all my childhood eating roti and daal, but now suddenly I have to eat sea food!! I never even visited a beach! More than new it was difficult for me. I started grumbling right after i saw my breakfast. Before I could tell anything about my food to my mom, my bus arrived. Was I an alien? Or was i dressed up as a joker? No right. Then why was everyone staring at me as if they had seen a ghost? All the people in my bus were staring at me, and I felt very uncomfortable. I did what i always do, I just rolled my eyes and went to the last seat. And as usual I got disgusting looks. And again as usual I didn't care. My new school was not that bad looking. It had green trees all around it. A cycle stand in the front, a football ground, a basketball ground and

lots of fresh air. But as they say it, don't judge a book by its cover, I think I'll just do the same. But what I really care for is the teachers, the students and my friends and not the school. I was there in Loreto Convent for 7 long years and I still didn't have a best friend. Leave best friend I didn't even have good friends. And the simple reason was that I was a tom boy and girls never liked me for that. I was very good at sports. All my classmates were bothered about looks, weight and complexion. And I will admit I had none of those. As a matter of fact, the teachers itself preferred beautiful girls. And so all the time i was a victim of discrimination. New girl? Hi, I am Shruti. uhh...what? I just reached my class. And was taken back with such a friendly behavior. Usually people used to just ignore new girls. But, I really didn't expect this. Jyotsna Joseph. I said and gave her a smile. She smiled back. We just came after our morning assembly. After my introduction. We proceeded for our lecture. All my classmates were very friendly with me. It was very unusual for me but I liked it. My teachers didn't differentiate between us on our looks, but on our ability. Each student had an identity. And my identity was my sports. All my classmates liked me because of who I was and not my face. I never knew a single 'hi' could bring such a change in me. I had been in Loreto Convent for 7 years and didn't have a single friend. But I just stayed here for two years and I got my whole class as my friends. I learned to value others talents and mine too. I learned that my life without KV 1 would have been hell. People say an idea can change your life but for me, my school changed my life. MS JYOTSNA JOSEPH Class XI B

MY SCHOOL IS THE SCHOOL OF MY DREAMS BECAUSE I AM NOT PUNISHED. It s been a long time since I had experienced an activity called punishment. Punishment, me and my school don't sound good all together. I am sure that my school is the school of my dreams. I have learnt one thing that a child need not be made to understand only by punishments or scoldings, even love and care can heal some wounds. One fine day, I guess the last Saturday I had read an article. That one article shivered my soul. It was about a child studying in Second Standard. This horrifying incident had taken place in Hyderabad. The article stated that a teacher named Saraswati had beaten up a child, banged his head onto the wall which unfortunately lead to the child's death just after one or two days. He was dragged into the dark path, DEATH. This was just the start, so I supposed that the child might have been a reason behind some BIG- BAD-CASE! But no, the reason was silly. He had gone through this only and only because he couldn't speak English. Not a big deal for many. My heart sank after reading this. How can a human show cruelty to such an extent? Just because a sick teacher couldn't keep control on her anger a child lost his life! This is what the education system offers a child. How could someone expect a child to speak fluent English at such an early stage? Every child is not born with the same family backgrounds, good guidance. What the teacher in this case needed to do was to firstly gain some patience, understand what the child's going through and then act wisely towards it. Someone has rightly said ''Punishment is not always the key to discipline.'' Our school has always followed this principal. I have myself been through on such situation where in my teacher instead of scolding me, punishing me had made me realize my mistake. As far as I can recall, I had just began following the path which would lead me to my destiny-it was the first year in Kendriya Vidalaya No.1

Vasco. I wasn't much aware of the school's rules and regulations. One rule among all those was that no one was supposed to enter into the garden. There was this beautiful red rose which captured my attention in the garden. I simply couldn't stop myself and just walked into the garden. Not only walked into the garden but also plucked the red rose. OH! I was spotted! Caught!. The look on my teachers face made me feel like a criminal who s been caught red handed. I could actually imagine myself sitting in the police station with the inspector who was interrogating me! But the reality was something utterly different from what I had imagined. This went on smoothly. She just held my hand, talked to me for a couple of minutes and let me go. I still remember her two minutes talk. Lastly I would like to conclude by saying that punishment never really heals problems, it just makes them complex. So rather than hurting start comforting. My school is the panacea for all problems. It is the place where my mind is without fear and I can hold my head high. MS CHAITRA NAIK Class XIB

AN INDIAN VILLAGE India is one of the oldest civilized countries of the world. The ancient civilization began on the banks of rivers. It was because the people settled there in order to carry on their agriculture. So villages came into existence. There are a lot of differences between ancient and modern villages. In olden days villages had no plan. There were a group of houses built of mud or palm leaves. There was no proper ventilation. In front of the houses or huts cattle were kept. There were narrow lanes and by lanes and no drainage system. The villages were surrounded by fields, tanks and coconut gardens. In dry areas such things were rare. Some villages are lucky enough to have modern facilities like roads, water and light. But most of the villages are still very backward. Today there are more than 6 lakh villages in India. Dr. BR Ambedkar strived for the casteless society wherein all people enjoy equal opportunities of education, livelihood and social justice. He was against the social discrimination prevalent in society of his times. Anger Management for Children Divyasa Khuntia, IV A Anger is a signal emotion. It usually mobilizes a response to danger, but it s also a form of self-expression and sometimes a child s way of declaring independence.. Young children have a lot to be angry about. They are not allowed to do everything they want. They fail at many of the things they try. They seek protection by going on the offensive. Sonal, IV A
