Salutatorian Address

1 Salutatorian Address Good evening honorable guests, friends, family, faculty, friends of family, friends of friends of family, family of friends, friends of faculty, family of faculty, friends of family of faculty, friends of friends, and basically anyone who has come to watch us bid our final farewells to Morell High. I thought it was absolutely crucial to greet everyone single one of you because without your guidance, support, and greater knowledge, we probably would not be wearing these gowns with as much pride as we are right now... or we wouldn t even be wearing them at all. So, on behalf of the Class of 2014, I would like to say thank you for making this moment possible for us.

2 It is an absolute honor to stand here before you to bring greetings from the Morell High graduating class of 2014 as the Salutatorian. Though I know very little meaning of and have great difficulty pronouncing the word salutatorian, (Pause for laughter hopefully) I m going to try my best to keep you all from booing me off the stage, laughing in complete pity, maybe even leaving, etcetera etcetera.. (Pause for laughter hopefully) So bear with me as I will probably stutter too much and misprununce words. (Pause for laughter hopefully) A famous philosopher and rapper named Drake once said, Started from the bottom now we here. (Pause for laughter) And boy did we ever start from the bottom. From being called minor niners, to having to walk through a narrow hallway filled with grade 12 s called the lean without being

3 tripped, we slowly but surely managed to work our way to the peak of our high school career. Though the majority of our senior year was spent at home in severe blizzard conditions, (Pause for laughter hopefully) we were still able to live up the entire grade 12 experience with only a few broken bones. Our class was also able to accomplish some pretty amazing things to help those who are less fortunate in surrounding communities, and on the other side of the world. In a quick 4 years, we developed from awkward, mischievous teens, to mature, and ambitious adults. All that hard work, staying up until 3am to finish an assignment, cramming for a big test, and crying after a big test have finally paid off. At least for now, most of us will continue the cycle in college or university, but like high school,

4 we will make it through it with the love and encouragement from all of you; our parents, teachers, family, and friends, friends of family, well I think you all get the picture. (Pause for laughter hopefully) Now, although we have had some pretty great memories together, these should not be the best four years of our lives. That is a pain I would not wish upon any of my enemies, if Shakespeare, exams, and solving math problems were the best years of your life, you have done something wrong. (Pause for laughter hopefully) In all seriousness, we will miss who and what we re leaving behind at Morell High, but as Albert Einstein once said, life is like a bicycle, in order to keep our balance we must keep moving forward.

5 Before I hand the mic back to Mrs. Minnis for the night, I would like to share a piece of advice with you all that was once shared to me by Ellen Degeneres herself, Follow your passion, stay true to yourself, and never follow someone else's path unless you re in the woods and you re lost and you see a path then by all means you should follow that. (Pause for laughter hopefully) My fellow graduates, find out who you are and be that person. That's what your soul was put on this Earth to be. Find that truth, live that truth, and everything else will come. But never forget to cherish the wonderful memories we made together.

6 Welcome to the Commencement Ceremony of the Morell High Class of 2014, thank you so much to everyone for coming out to celebrate with us. Sit back, relax, shed a few tears, laugh, and be very proud of this milestone we have accomplished. Thank you.
