6 Reading Track 07 Listen and read. Ways to Travel How do people travel from England to France? There is a sea between the two countries. This sea is called the English Channel. Before 1994, people traveled by airplane or boat. But boats are slow, and airports are busy. Now people can also take a train. You might want to know how that is possible. How could a train go in the sea? One man had an idea in He thought the train could go under the water. What a great idea! But at that time, people laughed at it. In 1994, almost two hundred years later, the Chunnel opened for use. It is a tunnel under the English Channel. Trains, cars, and trucks can all use this. Why is it called the Chunnel? It comes from putting together the words channel and tunnel. The Chunnel allows people to travel between England and France much faster than before. VOCABULARY SKILLS The suffix -ible makes adjectives that mean the ability of doing or being something. possible incredible: able to be trusted visible: able to be seen flexible: able to change or be changed Reading Time: m s / 150 words READING SKILLS Sequencing Sequence means the order that things happen. It helps us understand a story to know the sequence of events. Some words like before and after help show the sequence. Underline what happened before and after
