In every mystery, there is an element of suspense also. Suspense is a state of mind in decision, uncertainty of excitement. We enjoy solving mysteries, problems and puzzles. We enjoy reading stories that have an element of suspense in them. But what is it in them that give us enjoyment? It is the sense of achievement in solving a mystery or a puzzle that we enjoy. It is the intellectual challenge which the reader or the spectator enjoys in a mystery. Answer the following questions. 1. What is mystery? 2. How does mystery help us? 3. What is suspense? 4. What do we enjoy? 5. What is it in a story that gives us enjoyment? 2. Read the following passage and answer the questions given below. 10 Once upon a time, there was a Brahman who lived with his wife Panna and an infant son in a village. They had a pet mongoose, named Mongo whom they had brought up since the time he was a small baby. They loved Mongo very much and Mongo too was attached to the family. One day the Bharmin was called to attend the King s court. The same day Panna wanted to go the market, which was about four Kilometers away from the house. She told her pet, Mongo, I am going to the market, so take good care of my son while I am away. The baby is sleeping right now in the cradle. I shall be back by afternoon. So, Panna left the house. Obediently, Mongo sat near the cradle, while the baby slept peacefully. Answer the following questions. i) Who ware living with the Bramin? What did they have? i What is the name of it?
