1 EXT. STREAM - DAY 1

1 FADE IN: 1 EXT. STREAM - DAY 1 The water continuously moves downstream. Watching it can release a feeling of peace, of getting away from it all. This is soon interrupted when an object suddenly appears. It doesn t look like much as it moves with the current. Getting a proper glimpse of this thing is a tough task, it s not a fish, it doesn t even look like a piece of rubbish. One thing is certain, the object is unusual for this kind of environment. The current begins to slow down, therefore bringing the object into our view. Still, it looks unidentifiable. A closer inspection, however, finally uncovers this small mystery. It s a human finger (?). You can tell it s been recently severed because of the fresh blood that surrounds it. What s it doing there? Who s is it? These are the wrong questions. 2 INT. ROOM FOR THERAPY - MORNING 2 Somebody s bottom half sat down in a comfy looking chair. Their right leg shakes ferociously. A MS reveals a young person, he looks about 15 years old but could be older. The bum fluff on his face suggests this. He is currently staring into space with an expression of nothingness. A VOICE, soothing but authoritative, can be heard off-screen. The words cannot be understood as it sounds too distant. After talking for several seconds, the voice abruptly stops and a silence fills the air. This is quickly broken when the voice almost shouts. Martin! VOICE A WS reveals the owner of the voice, a, sat behind the boy,. He is awoken from his half-dead state. Further evidence of him being conscious is the fact that his leg has stopped shaking. (softly) Sorry... you were saying? Martin is polite in a condescending way; he instead seems to be conforming to social norms.

2 CONTINUED: 2. (intimately) What were you thinking about just then? It wasn t that. It wasn t violent. No, it wasn t. Your right leg was shaking. Was it? It was. Silence from Martin. How have the urges been lately? He starts to get impatient but still, he complies. Pretty strong. What s been triggering it? Anger. Anger at what? At... how pointless it all is, how shitty the world is. Why do these things make you angry? Because I can t change any of it. All I can do is sit and observe.

3 CONTINUED: 3. Well... this anger could be channelled towards something positive. Such as exercise -- Nope. Is it ok for me to leave? Why so soon? I feel a bit sick. Must have been from the chicken. Okay... do you want to reschedule? No. I don t feel like these sessions are doing me much good. I m sorry to hear that. I thought we were making some real progress. No reply from Martin. Well... if you change your mind don t be afraid to come back. Yep. Martin gets up from his seat and leaves. 3 EXT. STREAM - DAY 3 Martin walks beside the water and watches the current. He looks calm and at ease with his surroundings. After a while, he walks towards the water and kneels beside it. There he puts his hand in and sways it from left to right as the water passes by. Something small suddenly hits his hand which, undeterred, carries on downstream. Intrigued, Martin follows the object and eventually grabs it after some struggle. It s a human finger. He examines it with befuddlement, not shock or repulsion, but also fascinated by its presence. In addition to this, he compares his own hand with the severed one and notices the differing aspects of it.

4 4. After all this, he looks around to see if anyone is about, there isn t. He subsequently wraps the finger in a tissue and places it in his coat pocket. Martin stands up and fast walks away from the stream while looking straight ahead. 4 INT. BEDROOM - DAY 4 Martin is sat cross-legged on his bed and the finger, encased in a tissue, is in the palm of his hand. Now at home, he can get an even closer look which gives him feelings of awe and wonder. He perceives this object as something divine, a personal message from God - "Follow your desires, Martin." He gets up from the bed and goes over to a drawer where he picks up a ring box. This will be the finger s home from now on. Martin puts the box, partially open with finger inside, in the middle of his bed. He then walks around the bed with a look of contemplation, that is until he abruptly stops in front of his window. It overlooks a big patch of grass and Martin stares intently at one point specifically. It s his own reflection. His face looks strained as if he s deciding something and suddenly, with a purpose, he grabs the ring box and leaves the room. 5 EXT. WOODED AREA - DAY 5 The frame contains no one, instead, there is an empty space surrounded by tall trees. A faint sound of panting can be heard in the background. Martin enters the frame and strides around the space looking powerful in an all black attire. To finish it off, he takes a pair of black leather gloves out from his pocket and puts them on with finesse. A pocket knife is also taken out of a pocket which he forcefully stabs the air with a few times. This is the start of a strange methodical dance where he listens to music through earphones and sporadically stabs the air while his eyes are closed. As he does this, a montage of Martin catching his victim is edited in. He is seen chasing a person with a knife as his face exudes a look of deranged hate filled desire. When the song reaches its crescendo the more Martin stabs and then all of a sudden he stops. The victim is now seen tied up to a tree watching Martin with a look of both terror and befuddlement. He is wearing a nice black suit that is currently looking scruffy as a result of the aforementioned altercation. His face looks

5 CONTINUED: 5. even more terrified as Martin slowly walks towards him with knife in tow. He sits in front of the victim cross-legged at an uncomfortably close distance. What did you think? Of my warm up? The victim has tape around his mouth and therefore a response is not to be expected. I m sorry about all this... rigmarole. It s just that someone had to suffer. You re my first by the way. When they do a documentary of my life, of my... killings, you will be featured first. And I bet that your face will be shown, you ll be slightly famous. Not as famous as me of course, but that s to be expected. You didn t really do anything, whereas I took action. Martin smiles and laughs a little as he feels admiration for himself. I can t resist it anymore; I can t deny who I truly am. You understand this, don t you? This feeling of discovery, discovering my purpose, is something I thought I d never actually do. God damn, it feels good! The victim, who throughout that overzealous speech has been untying himself, kicks Martin in the head. Martin is obviously surprised by this act of retaliation and now a look of fear occupies his face. In a miraculous turn of events, Martin is on the floor and the victim is above him with his knife. He kicks him in the head again, grabs his hand, specifically takes his forefinger and saws it off. Music plays over Martin s screams as we see his face express incredible pain. Eyes and mouth are wide open and his head viciously shakes. The victim holds Martin s freshly severed finger in the air. The last shot is of Martin s right leg shaking, it shakes like never before while his dream escapes him.
